Cen. Taylor Admits
Japanese Police Record
TOKYO Wl Gen. Maxwell D.
Tavlor, nominated as U. S. Army
chief of staff, laughingly "con
fessed" Wednesday he had a Jap
anese police record.
He told reporters that when he
arrived in Jaoan 20 years aco as a
young military attache he declared
a .38 caliber revolver and 36 rounds
of ammunition. This was duly re
corded by the Imperial Japanese
Costoms on manifold forms, but
the figures were transposed.
A month later a police inspector
came to check on Taylor's arma
ment and found the revolver with
the 36 bullets.
"Where are the other two
shells?" he demanded.
At the police station Taylor was
told either to produce those otiier
two bullets or two bodies that
would account for their use, he
said. It took three trips to the
station to straighten it out.

Radio, TV Head
Is Flattered At
Attention Given
WASHINGTON Wl Harold E.
Fellows, president of the National
Assn. of Radio arfd Television
Broadcasters, contended Wednes
day his industry has been singled
out for "flattering but unwelcome
attention" by Congress while news
paners have been ignored.
In his renort to the organization's
annual convention. Fellows cited
among other examoles of a recent
bill introduced in the Senate which
would require political candidates
to reveal whether they use make
im and prompting devices on tele
vision. Fellows said one would logically
assume that the bill's sponsor, Sen.
Neubcrger (D-Ore), "would under
take a companion measure requir
ing the less fastidious office seek
ers to announce that they had
combed their hair before posing
for the press. But no such thought
apparently entered the senator's
mind."
