Kingsland Macy here was awarded $60,1X10 libel damages against the New York World-Tele-iiram and Sun in 1 suit in which he sought $50,000. A State Supreme Court jury of 11 men and one woman deliberated more than six hours before it brought in a verdict against the Scripps Howard afternoon news pa ner. Macy'j suit said the newsnaper virtually accused him of blackmail in printing that he used the much publiciied Ilanley letter of the 19.V) state election campaign to further his own political ambitions. Macy hailed the jury's verdict as "a great vindication." The newspaper contended Its story was "a fair ind reasonable news report" and that the suit was an attempt to "muzzle it."
