Sen. Neuberger's WASHINGTON 1 Richard L.; Neuberger, Oregon state senator , Srd - writer, Wednesday officially ecame Sen. Neuberger (D-Ore). I The 42-year-old Neuberger first Democrat to represent Oregon in the Senate for 40 years took the: oath of office shortly after the 84th Congress convened at noon. I Almost simultaneously, another Oregon Democrat, Mrs. Edith' Green of Portland, was sworn in as a member of the House. One of 34 members to take the , oath, Neuberger raised his right hand in company with Sens. 0' Mahoney (D-Wvo), Robertson, .(D Va) and Russell (D-Ga). Sen. More than 500 requests for bills have been received from legislators. . Sam Haley, who is legislative counsel and thus drafts bills for the lawmakers, said the 500 re quests is double the number re ceived before the opening of the 1953 session. Of the SOU, Haley said he will have 200 completed and ready for Introduction early next week. The Legislature opens Monday at 10 a. m. Soth houses will caucus Sunday evening to elect their of ficers. Geary opened for business Wednes day. . Geary said he would get tie House committees to work imme diately after Gov. Paul Patterson's message. Monday afternoon. He predicted there would be a record number of bills introduced in the House on Tuesday. "I am asking the committee chairmen to consider all non-controversial bills first so they can be acted upon. This would put the committees in better shaoe to sive most of their time to important legislation," Geary said. Geary and Smith haven't com' plcted the appointment of the leg islative committees.- Membership ot tne committees probably wui be announced Monday morning.
