They were accompanied here by John Counts, who returned to his home, following a week's stay at the Hobi lodge. Former Resident Here S. G. Sellick, formerly of Roseburg, now a resident of St. Petersburg, Fla is visiting Attorney and Mrs. R. L. Whipple and other friends in Roseburg. Mr. Sellick was chief signal maintainer for Southern Pa cific Railroad while he lived in Roseburg. Visit In Roseburg Five Army Nurses stationed at Fort Lewis, and who are en route to the Far .East, spent the weekend in Rose burg visiting SUters of Mercy at Mercy Hospital. The five, all sec ond lieutenants, are Mary Louise Evans of Lawton, Okla.; Mary Pachan, Eagle Bend, Minn.; Edna Burkett, Arizona; Phyllis Gates, Boston, and Marian Varklet, Pen sylvania. The five were taken by Sister Therese, Sister Finbar and Miss Kathleen Wolfe to Coos Bay Sunday, where they enjoyed a pic nic. Lt. Evans and Sister Mary Therese were former associates in Joplm, Missouri. Mrs. Clarke Home Mrs. Gcor gene Clark has just returned from attending summer session at Oregon State College and will be home for a few days before tak ing a trip to Seattle and the East ern parts of Oregon. Suffers Injury Jimmy Darrel Hart, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hart, Box 45, Wil bur, lost the tip of his little finger when it was struck by a hammer. He was taken to Mercy Hospital for emergency treatment. Visits Friends Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Reed visited in Corvallis Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Leonard and family, former Doug las County residents, then motored to McMinnville that evening to be guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mclviu Duggan. They returned to their home here Friday. Visits At Rano Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Grubbe and Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Reed spent a recent weekend in Reno, Vcn., visiting Mrs. Grubbe's daughter, Mrs. Jack Williams, and family. Ac companying them was Larry Dean Williams, who had been visiting for some time at the Grubbe home. From Kansas City Mr. and Mrs. Clem Myers, Kansas City, Mo., and son, Richard, are visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cox and family, 122 S. Jackson St. They will stay here about 10 days. Rackleff and two sons, George and Brian, of Arlington, Va., were housegucsts over the weekend in Roseburg of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. McGregor and daugh ter, Stephanie. They also visited Mrs. Rackleff's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hcnncssy, on Hickory Street. Col. i-Rackleff will sail from New York Aug. 3 for Germany. His family will return to Roseburg for a short visit and then go to Germany to join him and make their home. The Rackleffs and the McGregors became close friends when both families resided in Coos Bay. Last week, the McGregors went to Portland and brought home their young daughter, Stephanie, who had spent the last month there visiting her paternal grandmoth er, Mrs. Angus McGregor. Mrs. Moore formerly made her home in Kosoburg. She win visit in Port. land and then will go to The Dalles to visit Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Beard, former residents of this city, be fore returning to California. Reports To Air Bast Larry Henninger, who was graduated from Stanford in June and !hen reported for military service at San Antonio, Tex., spent Saturday and Sunday in Roseburg visitinc his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Henninger, after whioh he left for Parks Air Force Base at Pleas anton, Calif., to report for further training. He was accompanied home by his brother, Wayne Hen ninger, who has been spending tne last montn vacationing. He ac companied Larry to San Antonio and, following a visit there, pro ceeded to Lake Tahoe to spend the remainder of his vacation. By LOUISA COATS Mrs. Gladys Burr and Mrs. Nor ma Martin recently took their Camp Fire group for a hike up Sibold Canyon Road. On the way they, stopped along Porter Creek and made a study of frogs, from polliwogs to grown frogs and the different types. While they were gone some boys had killed a rattlesnake and the giris stopped to look at it and to learn about them from their lead ers. Returning to Mrs. Burr's home they held their business meeting and made plans to entertain their sponsors. They worked on their memory books which they com pleted. They decided to sell greet ing cards and Christmas cards to raise money for the Camp Fire fund. Those present were: Sally Ison. Genalce Sinclair, Sharon Cotv, Sharm Martin, Linda Sherman, Mariene Bowles, Carol Burr. Nan cy Sypher, Kathy Lucas, Ret a rreadman and Mrs. Burr and Mrs. Martin. Word has been received by Mrs. B. B. Smith and Wayne and Irvin Breitenbuher of the death of their uncle, James Rookard. Fun eral services were held in Myrtle Point Saturday. Mrs. Leon Simp son of the Frontier Store on the North Umpqua Road Is also a nieca of Rookard. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Smith have reeived word of a new treat granddaughter, Sandra Lynn, born on July 2 to Lt. and Mrs. M. J. Wirth at the air fore base in Hawaii; the baby weighed six and one-half pounds. Mrs. Wirth is the former Betty Lou Singleton. Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Smith have received word from their son, Sid ney, that he will receive his dis charge from the navy about Au gust 12 and will leave with his wife for Oregon about the first of Sep tember. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Ekstein of Coos Bay called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Smith in Ten mile on THursday.
