Monmouth, which has been the target of a probe by Sen, McCar hy's Senate Investigations sub committee, has applied for retire ment on health grounds. Andrew J. Reid, M, Eatontown, has been in the civilian post since 1946. He said he suffered a heart attack Dec. 27 and has not been back on the job since. He said last night he applied for retire ment April 6. Reid was praised by McCarthy for doing a good job at Ft. Mon mouth. The intelligence agent had testified before the subcommittee in Washington Dec. 9. McCarthy claimed an espionage ring operated at the supersecret radar laboratories in the fort, A loyalty-security check there re sulted in the suspension of 35 ci vilian employes, some of whom were later reinstated.
