WAOITAKA GIRLS ENTERTAIN PARENTS AND SPONSOR AT DINNER Saturday, March 27, the Wadl taka Camo Fire Group Invited their parents and sponsor to their tire maker s dinner ai me unue Grange Hall. The girls prepared and served the dinner, which was a "Feast From Five Continents." Three tables were placed in a U shape and attractively centered by a three tiered 44th birthday cake topped by pipe stem Camp Fire girls holding United States flags. The cake was surrounded by dolls dre'ted in costumes rep resenting foreign countries. Story book dolls and red, white and blue candles centered the two side tables. The girls and guests osgan their tour of South America by being served wine (grape juice), . fruit salad and fried rice. Tacos and salad from Mexico and hot potato salad and apple strudel from Ger many were served. Japan furnish ed the egg too yong and tea; and afrlea the bread and coffee. Gail Kelly acted as mistress of ceremonies during the program which consisted of the Camp Fire "Grace," Weggis Song, Swiss folk song, two piano solos, two skits and closed with the Friendship circle of girls and guests for "Call of the Fire" and "Taps." Several requirements for the birthday project, "Lets Be Differ ent Together, were fulfilled. Each father paid one dollar ad mission and each mother donated an article of clothing to help feed and clothe hungry children. The glrU were dressed in costumes appropriate to the country she wnrked on during the meal. Girls and their guests were: Gail Kelly, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Miller and Jolene, Mrs. C. L. Waggonw and Luanne, Mr. and Mrs. bau rence Robert and Judy. Mrs. Jua- nita Cole and Juanita, W. L. Sin gleton and Phyllis; Mrs. Harold Barker and Norma; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Schermerhorn and Anne; Mrs. Paul Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Franks and Joanne; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ireland and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Watkins. Soonsorers represented were Glide PTA bv Mrs. M. R. Weaver and Mrs. W. L. Singleton for the guardians. RIVERSDALE GRANGE PLANS EASTER PROGRAM April 16, at 8:15 p.m. the regu lar meeting of the Riversdale Grange will be held and the pro gram presented by the lecturer, Essie Olsoa, will carry out the Easter theme. An interesting pro gram has been planned and fun oortion of the program will be an Easter parade of hats. Ladies are to make hats pertaining to her husband s business, and tne men are to make hats representing something about his wife that he likes. All members are urged to come and take pant in the fun. Refreshment committee for the evening will be: Mr. and Mrs. Don Young, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johns, Mr.' and Mrs. Cliff Hess, Mrs. Cora Rogan and Mrs. Verna Emery. FRIENDLY HOUR CLUB TO MEET AT BUCKW ALTER HOME Melrose Friendly Hour Club will meet Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Arthur Buckwalter for a 12:30 o'clock dessert luncheon. Roll call will be on Easter with Mrs. Hazel Bly in charge of the program. VFW AUXILIARY TO MEET WEDNESDAY VFW Auxiliary will meet Wed nesday at 8 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hutiding on Garden Valley Road. This is the last meeting betore installation of offi cers. Members asd those eligible to membership urged to attend. EAST DOUGLAS HEU TO MEET WEDNESDAY East Douglas HEU will meet Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Joe Walker. (398JB CHICK YOWEEMAY GIRLS TAKE TRIP TO INDIA An airplane trip to tha land of the J a) Manal in India was taken by Hie Chickyoweemay Camp Fire Girls Tuesday evening with their hostess, Connie Meyer. The "air- view" disclosed the triangle shape of the country and the areas sur rounding it. On landing, the group saw the different modes of dress which are due to the different re ligions in India. A doll, made by the hostess, accompanied the group dressed in one of the fash ions of India. A climax of the trip was a din ner served by the hostess in the manner typical of the country. Chicken curry served over steam ed rice, whole-wheat Paratha and a dessert of bananas constituted the menu. After the "journey" a business meeting was feld to elect new of ficers for a three month period. Those taking office are: Jerry Flink, president; Sharon Longton, vice president; Karen Bartsch, secretary; Sharon Pepple, treas urer; Kay Holcomb, scribe; Con nie Mcver. sgt.-at-arms: Martha Dement and Judv Hansen, finance committee; Joyce Neavol! and Di. ana cartwnght, music ana games committee. Karen Bartsch. who has recently moved to Roseburg, has joined the Chickyoweemay group. Karen is an eighth grader at Junior High and is working toward her Fire Maker rank. Each girl carved a design on a potato to be used in block print ing ISO napkins for use at Easter time by the veteran s Facility. Menu covers wore also made using colorful Easter pictures on a white background, xnis is a jr. km Cross service project. Tne Spanish CircJe dance was practiced for the coming Folk Fes tival and promises to be a gay and colorful one. The continuance of the work at the city library has been com mended by miss Mitcneu, city li brarian and each Saturday is spent on this project. A display has been placed in the library by the group featuring the people, clothing and homes of a foreign land. A total of 12 such displays will be shown depicting that many dinereni countries. CAMAS VALLEY HEC TO ENTER CONTEST The Home Economics Olub of the Camas Valley Grange No. 521, met Monday at the home of Mrs. Robert Wheeler with Mrs. Harry Boyle acting as co-hostess. The meeting was called to or der and the roll call answered with an April Fool's joke. It was decided that several of the members would make a hcuse dress to be entered in the state Grange contest and that Lou Cun ningham was to make a pair of linen towels to be entered. Decorations and refreshments were carried out in the Easter motif and were served to ninJ members present. The next meeting of the Home Economics Club will be Monday, May 3, with Mrs. Art Jones as hostess and Mrs. Elma Dunham acting co-hostess. MRS. AMY SEELEY TO HOST JOLLY CIRCLE CLUB The Jolly Circle Club will meet Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Amy Seelcy in West Melrose for a noon potluck. EPISCOPAL GUILD TO ELECT OFFICERS St. George's Episcopal Guild will meet for a 12 o'clock potluck luncheon, Wednesday, at the par ish house to be preceded by Holy Communion at 11 a.m. Guild of ficers are to be elected. FRIENDLY CIRCLE SET WEDNESDAY MEETING Friendly Circle Club will meet Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Arnold Hfaff on Rifle Range Road. WICAKA CAMP FIRE GIRLS ELECT OFFICERS The Wicaka Camp Fire group held their regular meeting March 31. The memory books were brought up to date and ideas ex changed on materials and ways to build houses to correspond with their dolls of foreign lands which they have dressed. Edith Kempthorne stimps were given to each girl in return for her contribution given to tht Kempthorne fund. April 7 the regular meeting was held at the home of Rita Bennett. Mr. Bennett exhibited his trop ical fish collection. He has many different species. The fish are very interesting and the collection represented many colors, shapti and sizes. Mr. Bennett told of their habits and also fed them spe cial food that they need to sur vive. He also entertained the girls with his pet monkey. A business meeting was held and officers were elected for the next 3 months Those elected were: president, Patty Dent; vice president, Rita Bennett; secre tary, Linda Holcomb; treasurer, Darlene Butler; scribe, Virgie Walls; song leaders Judy Stew art, Janet lnman and Judy Piper. The girls practiced their Danish dance, "The Hopsavaltz." Refresh ments of cream puffs, cocoa and coffee were served by Mrs. Ben nett and Rita. A very enjoyful time was had by: Patty Dent, Sulene Keel, Judy Stewart, An netta Brinkmeyer, Gerry Garret, Rita Bennett, Linda Holcomb, Ju dy Piper, Virgie Walls, Donna Frisk, Darlene Butler, Janet ln man and leader, Mrs. Franklin Piper and assistant Mrs. Ed Hol comb. WEYANNAH GIRLS OBSERVE EDITH KEMPTHORNE DAY Weyannah Camp Fire girls ob served Edith M. Kempthorne dav with a council fire. Mrs. Prusia, their leader, ex plained the purpose of the Kemp thorne fund, which is an extension of the Camp Fire program and each girl contributed her quota, one penny for each year of aer age. The council fire also welcomed two new members, Phyllis Blake- lv and Sandra Brown. The evening was spent in work on memory books and making of Hawaiian leis for their part in the Five Continents Folk Festival to be held in the Benson School gym in April. Girls present were: Shannon Ratter, Ruth Thomason, Cindy White, Janet Reed, Carolyn Was- som, Phyllis Pittman, Jean Pru sia, Kathy Vang, Sandra Brown and Phyllis Blakely. Mrs. PhiUio Wassom and Mrs. Floyd Pittman were also present. EASTERN STAR TO OBSERVE EASTER AT MEETING THURSDAY Roseburg Chapter No. 8, OES, will observe Easter at a, meeting to be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic Temple. The meet ing was opened by the president.
