Mrs. Charles Brent and Mrs. George Moats were co-hostesses for the dessert supper. Decor ations were in the St. Patrick's motif. A business meeting conducted by the president, Mrs. George Weseman. followed the supper. It was decided to give a tea honor ing members of the Oregon State Mother's Club Saturday, April 18, 3 to S p.m. at the home of Mrs. Demlng Bronson, "Waffle Ridge," Charter Oaks Addition, Calkins Road. Committees for the tea are: Mrs. W. H.- Carter, invitations; Mrs. H. A. Wafeig, entertainment: Mrs. Dave Taylor, publicity, and Mrs. Charles Briggs, decorations. After the business session, profitable plant sale was held. Members present for the eve ning were: Mrs. L. 3. Lewis, Mrs. Ed th Gilmour, Mrs. Deming Bron son. Mrs. D. E. Ware, Mrs. D. BEAUTICIANS ATTEND ANNUAL i SHOW IN PORTLAND, MARCH 15-H The Roseburg Unit of the Ore' gon Beauticians Association was well represented In the Hair Fa shion and Trade Show held iu Port land March 15 and 16. The latest equipment and cos metics were presented by various Supply Houses. In addition to the contests held to choose the Mas ter Hair Stylist, there were three suest artists present to give aem onstrations and lessons. Grace Uoran and H. C. (Paopy) Dcdman, both internationally known hair stylists and comb-out artists, and Layne Marlin, the Make-up King, well known in Hollywood. The Beauticians of the Roseburg unit took every advantage of the dem onstrations and lessons given, getting many new ideas. The local group was represent ed in the Hair Siyling contest by Norma Lee Newby, who created a lovely hair style on her model. Nadine Bennett. She received many compliments from some of the Pacific Coast's leading artists. The local ' president Helen Rovse: vice president. Elizabeth Hughes and district president, Pat Kertesz: helped to register iind take care of the many people at tending the show. Other Beauti cians representing Associated Shops in Roseburg were Fern Craig, Helen Lane, Feme Andrus, Orla Phillips, Irene Wangeman, Dorothy Andrus and Mae Heliand. These shows are held annually and are reported to be very eau catlonal to the profssion. BIRTHDAY LUNCHEON IS LARGE AFFAIR AT METHODIST CHURCH The four-season birthday lunch eon, which was held March e in the social hall of the First Meth odist Church was a deligtful af fair. It was sponsored by the Woman's Society of the church with Mrs. H. C. Scott as general chairman and Mrs. Floyd Powell mistress of ceremonies. About 85 women attended. Each season held a separate table and they were cleverly decorated accord' ingly; spring with beautiful flow ering plum ana camellias; sum mer with a Fourth of July Birth' day cake with flags and red, white and blue streamers; fall colors, flowers and foliage decorated the autumn table, and the winter ta ble's decorations related to the Christmas season. Following the delicious luncheon a very interest ing program was presented by each table. THIMBLE CLUB HAS GUESTS AT LUNCHEON Neighbors of Woodcraft Thimble Club met at the home of Effle Cnuchpr for a one o'clock cover ed dish luncheon Monday followed by a business meeting. Birthday cakes were presented to Nettie Wilbur and LaVerna Lark and to Hester Laurance by Effie Crouch er. The club prize was won by Mallnda Miner ana given Dy nei tie Wilbur. The group voted to donate five dollars to the Red Members present were: Cynthia Germond, Malinda Miller, Winnie Hiwn, Martha Erskine, Lilly Lohr, Hattie Neal, Anna Hess, Ella tier bison, LaVerna Lark, Hester Laur ance and the hostess, Effie Crouch-pr. At the next meeting to be Monday, March 23, at the home of Hattie Neal, Z05 Hrocicway i members are asked to come at 10 a.m. to work on a quilt. Those not working on the quilt will take charge of the one o'clock cover ed dish luncheon. Each one is to bring her own table service. PIN KAND BLUE SHOWER HONORS MRS, MCKAY Mrs. Jimmy Burrows was host ess at a charming pink and blue shower in honor of Mrs. Dean McKay Monday evening at the home of the latter's mother. Mrs. Tom Lamm, on Garden Valley Road. Appropriate games were played before the opening of the guts. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Burrows end Mrs. Lamm to: Mrs. I. W. Lowe, Mrs. Carl Anderson. MACK HONORED ON BIRTHDAY TUESDAY Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Saum and daughters, Sharon and Cuyla, of Tenmile had as their guests Tues. day evening at their home on Res. ton Road. Mrs. Sailm's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Mack. The occasion was in honor of Mrs Mack', birthday. The family pre sented her with a lovely planter with five different planta ana a lovely rosebush. Tor- rey entertained her bridge club at a delicious one-thirty o'clock salad luncheon with the St. Patrick's table decorations. Covers were placed for Mrs. Al bert Karcher, Mrs. Ed Homberg, Mrs. Fred Waugh, guests, and the following members: Mrs. C. J. Bielman, Mrs. Earl Thatcher, Mrs. J. C. Kesner, Mrs. Frank McCord and the hostess. For the contract bridge play. Mrs. Kesner won high score and Mrs. McCord low. The next meeting of the . club will be held Wednesday, March 25 at the home of Mrs. F. L. Thomp son. BUCKAROO CLUB TO HAVE SATURDAY DANCE Buckaroo Square Dance Club. will hold its regular dance Satur day, Marcn 21, at Wincflester Skating Rink at 9 p.m. There will be special instruction in pattern dancing starting at 8:15. AH mem bers of beginner's class interest ed in joining Buckaroos are asked to be present for registration. Mrs. Ann recently at her home in Glendale for Mrs. Katie Duncan. Police Chief Speaks At Local Gathering Eugene Chief of Police Ted Brown spoke before a gathering of Douglas County policemen at a dinner party at the Country Club Tuesday. The get-acauainted meeting was sponsored ' by the Roseburg City Police Department. Chief Stan Ol son reported about 50 officers pres ent, including representatives from several county towns, the FBI and the Southern pacific. INJURED IN WOODS John T. Strode. Jennie Tourel, Conceit Singer Due Wednesday Jennie Tourel, celebrated con cert and opera singer, will be heard on the stage of the Junior High School Auditorium Wednes day, Mar. 25, at 8:15 p.m. This is the third in series of Commu nity Concert Association presenta tions of the winter. seasoV Miss Tourel can Justly be de scribed as me of the most loved and appreciated artists now before the public, advance nonces state. Marv Ellen Steward of Roseburg, who became ill while visiting In Wolf Creek, underwent major sur gery at the Canyonville hospital last Friday night. She has been released from the hospital and is recovering. Mrs. Harley Rowed was sched uled for surgery Wednesday mor ning at the Forest Glen Hospital in Canyonville. Mr. and Mrs. Dester Blevins of Glendale are the parents of a baby boy born March 16 at the Glendale Clinnic. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Kessinger are the parents of an eight pound four ounce baby girl born March IS at the Glendale Clinic. Mrs. Andy Rhoades was the re cent victim of a fall In her back yard. Accident Not Serious A slick road was the cause of an accident Saturday night, about 10:30 on the Glendale Road, two miles from town. Carmen Yates automobile, an old model, report edly slid on a wet curve and went out of control, started up a bank and turned over. Yates, who was driving, came out of the accident with nothing more serious than a black eye, although his fenders on all sides were badly damaged, and the tie rods were bent. Both Glen dale Chief of Police Walter Reich and Constable Ralph Haggard ap peared on the scene and directed traffic past the point until the car could be moved off the road where it would no longer be a hazard.
