PORTLAND, MARCH 15-H
The Roseburg Unit of the Ore'
gon Beauticians Association was
well represented In the Hair Fa
shion and Trade Show held iu Port
land March 15 and 16.
The latest equipment and cos
metics were presented by various
Supply Houses. In addition to the
contests held to choose the Mas
ter Hair Stylist, there were three
suest artists present to give aem
onstrations and lessons. Grace
Uoran and H. C. (Paopy) Dcdman,
both internationally known hair
stylists and comb-out artists, and
Layne Marlin, the Make-up King,
well known in Hollywood. The
Beauticians of the Roseburg unit
took every advantage of the dem
onstrations and lessons given,
getting many new ideas.
The local group was represent
ed in the Hair Siyling contest by
Norma Lee Newby, who created
a lovely hair style on her model.
Nadine Bennett. She received
many compliments from some of
the Pacific Coast's leading artists.

Hughes and district president, Pat
Kertesz: helped to register iind
take care of the many people at

The four-season birthday lunch
eon, which was held March e in
the social hall of the First Meth
odist Church was a deligtful af
fair. It was sponsored by the
Woman's Society of the church
with Mrs. H. C. Scott as general
chairman and Mrs. Floyd Powell
mistress of ceremonies. About
85 women attended. Each season
held a separate table and they
were cleverly decorated accord'
ingly; spring with beautiful flow
ering plum ana camellias; sum
mer with a Fourth of July Birth'
day cake with flags and red, white
and blue streamers; fall colors,
flowers and foliage decorated the
autumn table, and the winter ta
ble's decorations related to the
Christmas season. Following the
delicious luncheon a very interest
ing program was presented by
each table.

of gifts, she has made a place for

Accident Not Serious
A slick road was the cause of an
accident Saturday night, about
10:30 on the Glendale Road, two
miles from town. Carmen Yates
automobile, an old model, report
edly slid on a wet curve and went
out of control, started up a bank
and turned over. Yates, who was
driving, came out of the accident
with nothing more serious than a
black eye, although his fenders on
all sides were badly damaged, and
the tie rods were bent. Both Glen
dale Chief of Police Walter Reich
and Constable Ralph Haggard ap
peared on the scene and directed
traffic past the point until the car
could be moved off the road where
it would no longer be a hazard.
