VACCARO WASHINGTON - Harry Tru man went from the inauguration of Dwight Eisenhower Tuesday to a wildly enthusiastic Impromptu reception for Mr. Truman, private The demonstration occurred as he drove up to the home of Dean Acheson, the outgoing secretary of state. More than 300 of Acheson's friends and neighbors gathered in the streets to welcome Truman. Responding to the crowd demand of "We want Truman" the 68-year-old ex-President spoke up with a big, broad smile on his face. "May I say to you," he said, 'that I appreciate this more than any enthusiastic meeting I ever had as President, or as vice presi dent or as a senator. "This is the greatest demonstra tion any man could have. I'm just Mr. Truman, private citizen." Truman drove to the Acheson home in Old Georgetown immedi ately after turning over the presi dency to his Republican successor in colorful inauguration ceremo nies at the canitol. If it was a trying day for Tru man, there was little indication of it during the day in the smile that played around his face. Truman listed solemnly and in tently as Eisenhower delivered bis inaugural address. Then he slipped away to shouts of "Goodbye" from the crowd. Then Truman left the Acheson home with Margaret and Mrs. Tru man, but first he had to pose for photographers. And Mrs. Truman iota we cameramen: "Goodbye to. al of you thanks a lot for everything." Salem Man One Of 30 Robbed MANILA Wl W. A. Chittick, formerly of Salem, Ore., was among 30 persons robbed by a daring band of armed thieves on a well travelled highway near here Mondav. Chittick, who has lived In the Philippines for 32 years, said that between 30 and 40 men flagged down his car on a road one mile from the provincial capital of Bat agas which is 50 air line miles south of Manila. He thought he had come to a military check point because some of the band was dressed in khaki and others in blue denim. But the leader of the band, armed with a machine gun with a short dagger attached, ordered Chittick, his Filipino companion and ' otbers who also had been stopped out of their cars and into the woods. They came to a clearing and were stripped of their valuables. The loot was estimated at about 330,000 in cash and jewelry. A short time later Philippine Army troopers arrived on the scene and opened fire. The robbery victims fell to the ground and waived white handkerchiefs -while the thieves fled into the woods.
