Baptist Opposes Church School Federal Support WASHINGTON I A Baptist church official has coma out against what ho described as a call by the Roman Catholic bishops for government financial aid to church-sponsored schools. They also expressed alarm at what they saw as "efforts to create a monopoly of education for a sec ularized public school." Joseph W. Dawson, executive di rector of the Baptist Joint Com mittee on Public Affairs, issued a statement Monday saying in part: "It is not the function of gov ernment to aid religion financially or to participate in the affairs, of church." Dawson said he knew of no Prot estant opposed to establishment or use of church-established schools, "so long as the churches pay for them and do not ask tax funds in any effort to support them." Infection-Proof Spray New Air Force Aid WASHINGTON Wl The Air Force has a spray on plastic dressing that quickly coats a wound with an infection-proof film the attending doctors can look through while healing goes on, Announcing the development. Air Force headquarters said the film had promise for emergency use in case of atomic attack or other disaster, and also might dis place gauze as dressing for many kinds of surgical wounds. It is still under test. Samuel Britt, Former Roseburg Resident, Dies CORVALLIS-Samuel M. Britt, a resident of Philomath for the past 24 years, died at his home there early Monday after a brief illness. Funeral services will be in charge of the Warner-McHenry fu neral home of Corvallis. He was born at Pawnee, Kan., November 28, 1868. The family went to Roseburg in 1872 and he was married there to Cora Connine on December 25, 1898. The family lived here for six years before mov ing to Philomath in 1928. He is survived by his widow; four sons, Herbert. S. Britt, Eu gene; Lorin J. Britt and Ernest H. Britt, Portland; Lewis C. Britt, Pomeroy, Wash.; sister, Mrs. Fan nie Smith, Roseburg, four grand children and two great-grandchildren. Second-Growth Sawlogs' Price Drops $2 Per M. CORVALLIS Wl Demand for second-growth sawlogs continued good in the Willamette Valley last week, but at scattered mills the price fell $2 a thousand. The forest products market re port from the extension service at Oregon State College, said in re porting this that the quotations ranged from $38 to $47 a thousand with $8 to $40 the dominant figure. Douglas Mc Kay wants the Ground Observer Corps to stay on the job through the coming winter. . ....
