Taking- Fourth Bride

announced today that Britain's
most unconventional peer 80-year-old
Bertrand Russell, world
renowned philosopher, Nobel Prize
winner and earl in the peerage of
the United Kingdom is taking
a fourth bride.
She is a 52-year-old American
author, Miss Edith Finch of Bryn
Mawr, Pa., the Times says. The
eeremoty reportedly will take
place in January.
Russell was divorced from his
first three wives..

entitled to philander once in his
life, a spokesman male for the
British Law Society said last night
in advising wives It is better to
forgive once than try to forget
forever.
"I think for a woman to take
up the stupid position of insisting
upon absolute fidelity from her
husband Is wrong," London lawyer
E.C. Harvey told the Royal Com
mission on Marriage and Divorce,
which is hearing suggestions for
changes in divorce laws.
, "It might be suggested very
strongly to a wife to overlook it
where, a husband had failed on
one occasion with one particular
woman and had freely confessed
it rajher than rush into divorce.
After all, she will ba a long time
divorced," he said.

WASHINGTON I A Baptist
church official has coma out
against what ho described as a call
by the Roman Catholic bishops
for government financial aid to
church-sponsored schools.

The bishops, in a 3,000-word
statement issued after their an
nual meeting last week, deplored
what they called efforts to divorce
religion from education. .
They also expressed alarm at
what they saw as "efforts to create
a monopoly of education for a sec
ularized public school."
Joseph W. Dawson, executive di
rector of the Baptist Joint Com
mittee on Public Affairs, issued a
statement Monday saying in part:
"It is not the function of gov
ernment to aid religion financially
or to participate in the affairs, of
church."
Dawson said he knew of no Prot
estant opposed to establishment or
use of church-established schools,
"so long as the churches pay for
them and do not ask tax funds
in any effort to support them."

Korea, seven of its chaplains have
been killed, five are missing' and

Infection-Proof Spray
New Air Force Aid
WASHINGTON Wl The Air
Force has a spray on plastic
dressing that quickly coats a wound
with an infection-proof film the
attending doctors can look through
while healing goes on,
Announcing the development.
Air Force headquarters said the
film had promise for emergency
use in case of atomic attack or
other disaster, and also might dis
place gauze as dressing for many
kinds of surgical wounds. It is still
under test.
Samuel Britt, Former
Roseburg Resident, Dies
CORVALLIS-Samuel M. Britt,
a resident of Philomath for the
past 24 years, died at his home
there early Monday after a brief
illness. Funeral services will be in
charge of the Warner-McHenry fu
neral home of Corvallis.
He was born at Pawnee, Kan.,
November 28, 1868. The family
went to Roseburg in 1872 and he
was married there to Cora Connine
on December 25, 1898. The family
lived here for six years before mov
ing to Philomath in 1928.
He is survived by his widow;
four sons, Herbert. S. Britt, Eu
gene; Lorin J. Britt and Ernest H.
Britt, Portland; Lewis C. Britt,
Pomeroy, Wash.; sister, Mrs. Fan
nie Smith, Roseburg, four grand
children and two great-grandchildren.
Second-Growth Sawlogs'
Price Drops $2 Per M.
CORVALLIS Wl Demand for
second-growth sawlogs continued
good in the Willamette Valley last
week, but at scattered mills the
price fell $2 a thousand.
The forest products market re
port from the extension service at
Oregon State College, said in re
porting this that the quotations
ranged from $38 to $47 a thousand
with $8 to $40 the dominant figure.
This was for No. 2 second-growth.
No. 3 was mostly around $36.

Morrell has spent six years in
Panama, where he met his- wife
and they were married there. This
is the first time his family has
seen her. He is being transferred
to Camp Roberta, Calif.

day and spent the day with Mr.

Home came to Lebanon and spent
the day with them.

Corps to stay on the job through

He said the corps, a group of
volunteers under Air Force super
vision, plays an important part in
the U. S. air defense system.
"Although the GOC volunteers at
times believe they have a thank
less task, the service they give
might result in receiving adequate
warning in th event enemy planes
penetrate our defenses without be
ing detected by radar," he said.
