Umpqua Post 16 Adding Members Anyone who guesses that Ump qua Post 16, American Legion will have less than 250 paid members for 1953 won't win $500 in the group's membership contest. The post announced today that It already has 250 paid members. For each guess a contestant makes, he must have paid his own dues and turned in the dues for either one brand new or two for mer Legion members. Prize for the closest guess of i53 members as of Nov. 11 is $500 in merchandise. Commander Jim Richmond Is pleased with the response to the memoership drive. "More than that, the planning and oarticiDa- tion by those firms who have so generously donated gifts and by inose wno have sponsored adver tising to put the nlans into effect has been an active demonstration of the spirit of mutual helpfulness to which the Legion is dedicated," Richmond said. ' Total 1952 paid membershiri was 468, with 568 in 1951, 666 in 1950 and 817 in 1949. Quota set for 1953 is 625. Notices 31 NO huntlnc or trespasslnf on the Vina H;m Storey property. Whether dancers like Western or popular music they'll be ready or popular muic, they'll be ready for them, as they ve secured bands of both types. The two will alternate throughout the evening. Dick Strayer and the All-Stars, currently playing weekends at the Elks, will provide popular tunes, while Lou Franco and his Happy Valley cowboys will put dancers in the Western mood. Dancers will be able to see a large blackboard which will show up-to-the-minute local returns. Local, state and national returns will be presented at each Inter mission through the facilities of KRNR, broadcasting direct from the Armory, and the News-Review.
