I Legion Group From Yoncalla Seats Officers Yoncalla American Legion Aux iliary unit No 174 were guests of the Drain Auxiliary at a joint in stallation of officers beld Tuesday evening, Aug. 19th at Vets Cor ner. Mrs. John Deveraux of Han don, president ol District No. 10, assisted by Marguerite LeGrander, past district president of Drain, and Leo Farreil, Chaplain installed the officers. Officers installed for Yoncalla Unit No. 174 were president, Mrs. Marvin Thompson: first vice pres ident, Mrs. June Dodd; secretary, Mrs. Dan Russell: treasurer. Mrs. Karl Hummel; chaplain, Mrs. Russell Lovd: sergeant at arms, Mrs. Harold Rogers, and histor ian. Mrs. Carl Conaway. Each officer and guest was pre sented with a carnation corsage in Auxiliary colors made by Dolah Nutt. Following Mrs. Deveraux's in structions to the units, a report by Miss Jackie Clearinan, Drain on her attendance at Girls State held in Salem last June was given. Miss Clearman's report was out standing in that it showed she had mastered the fundamentals of gov ernment proceedure both city and state levels, which made the Aux iliary feel that such a program was well worthwhile. Yoncalla News Briefs Mr. and Mrs. John Devine and daughter, Janelle, of Clatskanie visited at the Maud Thiel home last week. On Friday, Mrs. Thiel accompanied them on a trip to Crater Lake and the Oregon Caves. Bert Hardesty and Louie Morin and son of Dayton, Wash., spent the weekend visiting at the Hank Morin home. Birthday Party Honoring the birthday of Ed Williams, his wife entertained at a dinner in their home in Hay hurst Valley on Sunday, with the following guests present: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Long and family of Susanville, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Morin, Mrs. Barbara Burke and son and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Williams and family. Visit Coast On Waekend ' Lester Weiss and Owen Perkins of South Bend, Ind., spent the weekend visiting Rev. and Mrs. R. W. Knight of Yoncalla. On Sun day the Kniqhts took tneir guests to the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tapley and family of Arlington, Wash., are j visiting Mrs. Tapley's parents ana brother and sister in F.lkhead. . Albert Cockeram returned home Tuesday after spending two weeks on a trip, to Sacramento, Calif. He was1 accompanied by- his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Morgan, and their daugh ter, Pamela, from Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Cabaness spent last week touring in Canada. They -were accompanied by their daughter and family of Sacra mento, Calif. . : School fclsws Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Hanson and two sons left last week to make their home in Cloverdale, Ore. Mr. Hanson was the former prin cipal of Yoncalla High School. Mr. and Mrs. Moll, of Corvallis moved here last week and are now occupying the Kirklie apart ment. Mr. Moll is the science teacher in Yoncalla High School. Mcculloch portable pump Miss Lois Ann Wright, who has been seriously ill with lung trou ble in the Cottage Grov Hospital, was taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital for further treatment. Friends of Mrs. Luther Daugh erty are informed that she is now able to swallow and enjoy a good meal. She is still in the hospital at Eugene but is gradually recov ering from a paralytic condition of her throat. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lee returned home Tuesday from a week's trip to Victoria, Vancouver and other places in Canada. They also vis ited In Whidbey Island, Toppen ish, Wash. Ferrying from Port Angeles, Wash., to Victoria and from Nanaimo, B. C, to Vancou ver, B. C. While in Victoria they toured the parliament building and witnessed the damage done by the cloudburst in Wenas Villey; then returned home via the Mount Hood Highway. Richard Walker, son of Mrs. Bernice Radtke of Yoncalla, is now stationed on Okinawa Island. Polio Lands Third In Family In Hospital PENDLETON Wl - Mrs. Ken neth Lewis has joined her husband and her brother-in-law in the polio ward at St. Anthony's hospital. Her case, reported Wednesday, is mild and non paralytic. Her hus band, 21, and his brother Ronald, 23, are both in iron lungs. Their mother, Mrs. Clint, said they were improving. Dr. E, E. Berg, county health officer, said Mia, Kenneth Lewis was one of three new oolio cases, bringing the year's total" to 41, Only six are still hospitalized. Get-Away Car Nabs Robbery License Suspect PORTLAND Wl A witness to a grocery store robbery, seated in his car across the street, jotted down the license number of the get-away car and landed Daniel L. Gablehouse 24, in jail. Gablehouse, a' bus driver, denied any part in the hold up of Ship ley's Grocery Tuesday night. He was arrested as he arrived home about four hours after the hold-up. He said he had rented the car to drive home from work. The car was registered to a rental agency. The Dakotas and Minnesota are important rye-producing states.
