Yoncalla American Legion Aux
iliary unit No 174 were guests of
the Drain Auxiliary at a joint in
stallation of officers beld Tuesday
evening, Aug. 19th at Vets Cor
ner. Mrs. John Deveraux of Han
don, president ol District No. 10,
assisted by Marguerite LeGrander,
past district president of Drain,
and Leo Farreil, Chaplain installed
the officers.
Officers installed for Yoncalla
Unit No. 174 were president, Mrs.
Marvin Thompson: first vice pres
ident, Mrs. June Dodd; secretary,
Mrs. Dan Russell: treasurer. Mrs.
Karl Hummel; chaplain, Mrs.
Russell Lovd: sergeant at arms,
Mrs. Harold Rogers, and histor
ian. Mrs. Carl Conaway.
Each officer and guest was pre
sented with a carnation corsage
in Auxiliary colors made by Dolah
Nutt.
Following Mrs. Deveraux's in
structions to the units, a report
by Miss Jackie Clearinan, Drain
on her attendance at Girls State
held in Salem last June was given.
Miss Clearman's report was out
standing in that it showed she had
mastered the fundamentals of gov
ernment proceedure both city and
state levels, which made the Aux
iliary feel that such a program
was well worthwhile.

Mr. and Mrs. John Devine and
daughter, Janelle, of Clatskanie
visited at the Maud Thiel home
last week. On Friday, Mrs. Thiel
accompanied them on a trip to
Crater Lake and the Oregon Caves.

the weekend visiting at the Hank

Visit Coast On Waekend

Albert Cockeram returned home
Tuesday after spending two weeks

two sons left last week to make
their home in Cloverdale, Ore.
Mr. Hanson was the former prin
cipal of Yoncalla High School.

moved here last week and are

ment. Mr. Moll is the science
teacher in Yoncalla High School.

was taken to the Sacred Heart
Hospital for further treatment.

at Eugene but is gradually recov
ering from a paralytic condition

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lee returned
home Tuesday from a week's trip
to Victoria, Vancouver and other
places in Canada. They also vis
ited In Whidbey Island, Toppen
ish, Wash. Ferrying from Port
Angeles, Wash., to Victoria and
from Nanaimo, B. C, to Vancou
ver, B. C. While in Victoria they
toured the parliament building and
witnessed the damage done by the
cloudburst in Wenas Villey; then
returned home via the Mount Hood
Highway.

stationed on Okinawa Island. He

ward at St. Anthony's hospital.
Her case, reported Wednesday,
is mild and non paralytic. Her hus
band, 21, and his brother Ronald,
23, are both in iron lungs. Their
mother, Mrs. Clint, said they were
improving.

officer, said Mia, Kenneth Lewis
was one of three new oolio cases,

get-away car and landed Daniel L.
Gablehouse 24, in jail.
Gablehouse, a' bus driver, denied
any part in the hold up of Ship
ley's Grocery Tuesday night. He
was arrested as he arrived home
about four hours after the hold-up.
He said he had rented the car to
drive home from work. The car
was registered to a rental agency.
