FOX The Glendale PTA has announc ' ed lhat a pre-school clinic will be held at the high school building Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for all students beginning the first grade and ninth grade this fall. Dr. H. M. Fcrgui.Min will be the examining physician. These examinations are required by state law. Each pupil, it is stated, must be accompanied by a parent. Stalin gave this report personally at the two previous Communist party congress gatherings in 1934 and 1939. DOMINIE CETS AROUND - Rev. J. C. Wizaes, 67-year-old r'argo, N. D., minister, stands beside the wall of license plates he nas collected during his years of travel as a field representative of Ihe Evangelical Lutheran Church. He has been collecting plates since he started his ministry 38 years ago and they add up to 650,000 miles of travel, 15 autos and residence in three states. Veteran Barber Still Clips After 60 Years SPRING CITY, Pa. W Joseph Thomas was surprised recently when he read about a man who said he was the country's oMpst active barber who is more than 83 and has been in business about CO years. Thomas was surprised because he has been clipping heads here fur 68 years and is 85. He started as a barber in 1884 and four years later went in business for himself. In 1900 he had to vacaie his rented shop so he built his own and he works there still. His original barber chair for chil dren is also still in service. EXIT JAYWALKER PORTLAND 1 Joseph M. Brcnnan, 65, died Wednesday shortly after being hit by a car. The police report said he was jay walking. His was Portland's 29th traffic death his year. Last year at this time the toll was 24. 47 Millions In U.S. Aid For Philippines MANILA I The Mutual Se curity Agency reports that U.S. aid totalling 47 million dollars was granted the Philippines during the fiscal year ended June 30. The principal allocations were $15,095,000 for essential commod ity imports; $13,723,000 for agri culture and forestry and $9,467, 000 for transportation, power and public works. Portland Carpenters To Vote On Strike Plan PORTLAND A strike vole was ordered Friday by the AFL District Council of C-irpenters against the Portland Home Build ers Association. Clell Harris, council president, said the action was taken after the association refused to grant a 15 cent hourly wage increase ap proved by the Wage Stabilization Board for the light construction building industry. An association spokesman said his trroun disputes the interpreta tion of the WSB order and holds it does not apply generally. An estimated 800 to 900 carpen ters are employed in building homes in the Portland area.
