Flying Saucer
Reports Coming
At Faster Rats
WASHINGTON The Air
Force said Monday It Is receiving
flying saucer reports this summer
a' a rate higher than at any time
since the initial flood of sightings
in 1947.
An Air force spokesman said
that while 1947 was the big year
for such reports, the current av
erage of 100 sightings a month is
the largest since then, with the
November December period of
1948 next.
He said there has been no cor
relation of sighting reports to sea
sons. The Air Force could not furnish
an estimate of the cost of running
down flying saucer rumors, be
cause they are handled through

Exhibits Asked
For Centennial
History Display

might have historical exhibits Ij
offer are being contacted this
week to set up exhibits in con
nection with the Douglas County
Centennial,
Mrs. Georgia Peterson, chair
man of the exhibits,, said they
would be displayed at the Doug
las County Fairgrounds the three
days of the Umpaua Cavalcade,
Aug. 30, 31 and Sept. 1.
The exhibits are being solicited
from throughout the country.
Mrs. Peterson said the exhibi
tions must conform to the histori
cal or educational theme and that
the Centennial reserves right to
accept or reject applications.
An entry fee of $25 is being
charged and applications may be
made at Centennial Headquarters
in Junior High School.
Communities, organizations and
outnesses are invuea to place
displays with the exhibition, Mrs. !
Peterson said. I
Afternoon events in connection
with the Centennial are being 1
planned to help draw people to
the exhibits. The events, not yt
decided on, will be held in front
of the Fairgrounds grandstand
each of the three days of the pageant.
