t SUTHERLIN BRIDGE CLUB ' HAS RECENT SESSION Sweetpeas, roses and snapdrag ons were artistically arransed about the spacious rooms by Mrs. C. J. Blelman, when she gracious ly entertained her bridge club at a one-thirty o'clock salad lunch eon at her home west ot Suther lin, Wednesday. Covers were placed for the Mes. dames Fayette Thompson, 0. L. Torrcy, Claude Kesner, Frank Mc Cord, Earl Thatcher, Lloyd Woods, C. A. Petheriek and the hostess, Mrs. Bielman. Contract bridge was in play dur Ing the afternoon with Mrs. Tor rcy winning high store and Mrs. Petheriek, low score. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Fayette Thompson July 9. NEW GARDEN CLUB IS ORGANIZED RECENTLY A new Garden Club was organ ized and officers elected Thurs day when a meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Henry llalvor sen Jr., on East Sixth Avenue. Those chosen as officers were: Mrs. Bud Holm, president; Mrs. C. J. Bielman, vice-president; Mrs. Henry Halvorsen Jr., secre tary; Mrs. O. L. Torrey, treas urer; Mrs. D. B. Kesner, pro gram. The meeting was held in the garden and after all business was transacted Mrs. Halvorsen served tasty refreshments to the Mes dairies Bud Holm, Oliver Eggle ston, Bernard Bever, Bertha Arch ibald, Fayette Thompson, Winnie Allan and Mrs. D. Y -A. rSny 3.9s TOWN AN J COUNTRY CLUB TO MEET MONDAY The Roseburg Town and Coun try Club will meet Monday, June 30, at a 7:30 o'clock dessert-supper at the home of Mrs. L. L. Powers at Winston with Helen Duncan at co-hostess. Members having cars are asked to stop at the library park at 7:15 p.m. to pick up members de siring transportation. Directions for getting to the Powers home are: turn left at first road past Winston bridge, go two miles to six mail boxes. OKI YA CAMP FIRE GROUP HAS MEETING The Okiya Camp Fire group met at the home of the guardian, Mrs. Miller, recently. Members who are Job's Daughters told of their ex periences at the Rose Festival in Portland. The group divided into two sides and enjoyed a game alter the meeting. The "winning side included: Roberta Hites, Ell nora Rose, Mary Jane O'Brien and a guest, Mary Lynn Rose. Oth ers present were: Charlotte Kelley, Barbara Wilbur, EUnora Rose, Jo Anne Miller and Mrs. Miller. Mrs. Miller served a treat to the group. EAGLES AUXILIARY TO MEET TUESDAY The Eagles Auxiliary will meet at eight o'clock Tuesday night at the home of Mildred Fogcl. A white elephant sale will be held. Members, who did not bring ar ticles for the sale at the last meet ing, are asked to bring white ele phants for the evening's sale. Cake and coffee will be served follow ing the meeting. SEMI-ANNUAL ( SALE OFF ON ALL MEN'S WOMEN'S CHILDREN'S SHOES TWO ROSEBURG WOMEN ATTEND SORORITY CONVENTION THIS MONTH Mrs. Clarson Chitwood and Mrs. Roy Stein attended the Northwest Regional convention of Beta Sig ma Phi in Victoria B. C, June 13-14-15. Members of this sorority from Saskatchewan represented the western Canadian Provinces. The states of Montana, Oregon, Wash ington anil Idaho were represent ed also at the convention. The program opened with a luncheon Saturday noon. A forum and general discussion followed. A formal banquet and dance was held that evening. Mrs. Chitwood stated the official tours were most interesting and the Parliament buildings at night were a lovely sight. Sunday, the convention conclud ed with an official luncheon. Seattle was chosen as the con vention city for 1953. SUTHERLIN WSCS HOLDS ENJOYABLE POTLUCK The Women'i Society of Chris tian Service held a very enjoy able potluck dinner and business meeting Thursday, at the social parlors of the Sutherlin Methodist Church with Mrs. Catherine Fish er and Mrs. Robert Weaver as hostesses of the day. The linen covered tables were arranged with pretty centerpieces of sum mer flowers. Covers were placed for the Mes dames Henry Campbell, May Mc Cord, Jennie Comstock, Lewis Sheffel, Walter Slater, Douglas Geddes, Frank Martin, Les lie Gleason, Mr. and Mrs. Or ville French, Ray Parker, Wilson Swift, C. D. Stillwell, Rev. and Mrs. Lewis Bove, Mrs. McCoy, Robert Weaver and Catherine Fisher. The business meeting was call ed to order by the president, Mrs. Campbell,, and roll call was an swered by a verse of scripture. Mrs. Frank Martin had charge of the devotionals. No program was held. All the time was con sumed with the business meet ing. Plans were made for a recep tion for the new minister, and family, Rev. and Mrs. Lewis Bove and son, Stephen, which will be held at the social rooms of the Methodist Church Wednes. day, July 2 at 6 o'clock, potluck. All members are Invited to at tend. It was voted to buy a refriger ator for the parsonage and Mrs. Geddes, Mrs, Campbell and Mrs. Sheffel were appointed as a com mittee to purchase same. Mrs. Wilson Swift was appoint ed to take care of sending cards to the sick. CLATSOP COUNTY FOLK PLAN PICNIC JULY 20 All former residents of Clatsop County are cordially asked to par ticipate in a picnic to be held at Umpqua Park July 20, Sunday. JOSEPH'S ALTAR SOCIETY HAS MEETING ' The social meeting of St Jo seph's Altar Society was enter tained in the rumpus room of the Nurses Home at the Veterans Hos pital by the hostesses, Miss Kay Ward and Miss Margrele Joyce Wednesday, June 25. There was a short business meet ing conducted by the president, Mrs. J. B. Kilkenny and the social hour followed. Games were play ed and prizes were awarded by the hostess to Miss Anna Link, Mrs. Cliff Pennell, Mrs. Tom Ed wards and Mrs. Harold Nicholas. Delicious refreshments were served from a table decorated with a centerpiece of pink roses. Mem bers enjoying the evening with Miss Ward and Miss Joyce were: Mrs. W. F. Amiot, Amy Bauer, Mary Benson, Francis Circle, Art Koch, Tom Edwards, Elwood Fost er, Jack Holford, Nelson Heward, Paul Jenkins, Steve Kiss, J. B. Kil kenny. HOLD MEETING The Lutheran Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Guild, of St. John's Lutheran church of Sutherlin, held a very enjoyable joint meeting Thursday evening at the church. A short business meeting was conducted by the president and vice president of the two societies. Members made plans for some of the young people to attend Lluther an Bible Camp at Grayback Camp, near Grants Pass. A social hour was enjoyed and the wiener roast held outside in the yard was an Interesting event for the children present. The next meeting of the Ladies Aid wiU be held on July 17, at 7:30 o'clock, at the church with Mrs. Lewis Swanson as hostess. , EVERGREEN GRANGE HAS CLEAN UP DAY RECENTLY The Evergreen Grange Home Economics Club met Thursday at the Hall for a cleanup day. Mem bers present were Margaret Bun, Rubie Baker, Marie Buttler, Betty Implazio, Sarah Cyrus, Nell Lan der, Renie Jenkins, Jessie Thomas, Garnet Folmsbee, Rubie Bloom, Mable Lange, Cecelia Conklin, Ma bel Burr, Katherine Cory, Velma Ai-.Ttus and Olivia Lander. Guests were Bertha Buttler and Mrs. Merle Lander. A potluck dinner was served at noon by the hostesses Cecelia Conk lin, Marie Buttler and Katherine Cory. Members worked on the towels in the afternoon. A mis cellaneous shower was given lor Mrs. Merle Lander who lost her home by fire sometime ago.
