Shaver on charges of accept it.J $3,100 In fees to push cases be fore government agencies while he' was counsel for the Senate small business subcommittee. Winding up an investigation which started last Fbruary, the grand jury also indicted three asso ciates of Shaver. They were accus ed of aiding the allegedly unlawful deals. ... Shaver was charged, on 11 counts in three indictments, with violating a federal law which prohibits any government employe from accept ing compensation to represent out side parties before government agencies in any matter in which the government is interested. Shaver faces a total of possible maximum penalty of 28 years in prison and $110,000 in fines, or both, if convicted. However, maximum sentences are rarely imposed. Others indicted along with Sha ver were Leonard H. Cooper of Miami, Jerome H. Weinkle, Mia mi attorney, and Raymond W. Lopaika, Chicago attorney. Assistant District Attorney John W. Fihelly said the investigation cleared F.o Brat ton, a secretary to Vice President Barkley, who was linked with reports of Influence at tempts at the time the cases were first made public last year. Last , fall a Senate committee looked into reports that Mrs. Brat ton and Shaver helped swing a $1,100,000 government loan sought to build a Florida luxury hotel.
