(AP Wirephoto) Swimming Pool At Camp Tyee Lions' Project A new swimming pool will be available at Camp Tyee, if plans now underway are carried through. The permanent camp committee of the Camp Fire Girls Associ tion, at a meeting at the Paul Hult home in Dillard, discussed plans being readied for the swim ming pool. It had been disclosed at an earlier meeting by Charles Collins, a member of the commit tee, that a natural depression had been found adjacent to the camp which, by construction of a small dam, could be made into a smooth walled, shale rock swimming pool. It was decided at that meeting that the Drain Lions Club would be asked to undertake construction of this dam. At Sunday's meeting, Hugh Whipple, a committee mem ber, reported that the Drain club had acted favorably on the matter, and as soon as the Umpqua River is low enough, construction will be started. Discussion followed as to proper I chemicals for algae control and disinfecting. Claude Baker, county sanitarian, was asked to report at the next meeting on proper meas ures to insure healthful swimming. The new pool will be close enough to the river level so that it will be a comparatively simple matter to have an almost constant flow of fresh water going into the pool at the upper end and still, because of the length and shape of the pool, it should be warmed considerably by the sun before flowing out at the lower end. - Type and size of pump and water pipe, new showers, a cook's cabin and other matters were discussed. It was announced that consider able progress was being made by the Roseburg Lions Club in its project of building the new coun selors' cabin and completion is an ticipated in the very near future. Miss Patricia Mayo, permanent chairman, led the discussion. AR BOG AST WASHINGTON UH Two Con gressional committees focused at tention Thursday on the reported waste of at least 35 million dollars on five North African Air Bases. The bases are being built for the U.S. Air Force by Army engi neers under contract to a group of construction firms known as "At las'' contractors. The original estimated cost of the project was 300 million dollars, and a House Expenditures sub committee said as much as 50 mil lion may already have been "poured down the drain." The project is being probed also by a Senate Preparedness subcom mittee headed by Sen. Johnson (D Tex.). The Johnson committee was expected to go over testimony released Wednesday by the House group, whose chairman is Rep. Hardy (D.-Va.).
