MERRY-GCy ' ROUND CLUB MEETS AT PICKENS HOME Mrs. J. Earle P 1 c k e n of Winston was hostess Thursday af ternoon, Feb. 7, when she enter tained the Merry-Go-Round Club at a 1:30 o'clock salad-luncheon at her home on South Stephens Street. The serving table was centered with an attractive arrangement of winter jasmine, flanked by match ing pale yellow tapers. Refresh ments were in keeping with the Valentine season. Following the luncheon, a pleas ant social hour was enjoyed by members and their invited guests. Present, besides the hostess, Mrs. Pickens, were: Mrs. J. H. Wilson, Mrs. Earl Agee, Mrs. J. Kearby Masters, Mrs. J. H. Carnes, Mrs. George Sothman, Mrs. Fred Vehr Ing, Mrs. George Johnson and Mrs. J. Harold Nichols. Guests included Mrs. Elmer Metzger and Mrs. Ella Lennox. Time and place of the next meeting will be announced later. SKATING PARTY IS ENJOYED AT WILBUR The Wilbur Recreational Club sponsored a skating party at the Winchester rink Friday, Feb. 8. The party was well-attended by the Wilbur residents and everyone had an enjoyable time. The next skating party for Wil bur will be March 14 at Winchester. Top Hat Oatmeal Popovers (Makes i Popovers) Once ud cooked oatmeal, 2 egg yolks, 1 cup sifted enricned tiour, 1 teasooon baking powder. 1 tea. spoon salt, 1 cup milk, 2 egg whites, stiff beaten. Grease glass custara cups or popover irons and heat in oven wnue maxing ine oauer. Combine oatmeal and eefi yolks, Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add with mute to oat-meal-eee mixture and stir in light ly. Fold stiff-beaten egg whites into oatmeal mixture. . Fill hot custard cups or popover irons 2-3 Jul! of batter. uaKe in hot overn (i5 degrees F.) for 20 minutes. - Make a H-inch slit in the lop of each popover for escape of steam. Reduce heat to moderate (350 degrees F.) and bake 35 to 40 minutes longer. Remove from baking pan. Cut the top off each popover and fill with creamed chicken, ham or tuna fish. Replace top and serve as a luncheon dish. Note: These may also be served plain with butter and jelly as a breakfast bread. Oatmeal fritters are made of two cups of cooked oatmeal. Served with syrup and crisp ba con they, too, make a fine lunch eon dish. Oatmeal Fritters (Makes 10 to 12 cakes) Two cups cooked oatmeal, 1 egg, beaten; V4 teaspoon salt, Vt tea spoon baking powder, Vi cup flour. Combine oatmeal and beaten egg; sift together rest of ingre dients' and add to oatmeal. Beat well. Drop V cup for each cake iijto hot fat Vc-lnch deep in frying pan. Brown on both sides. Drain on absorbent paper. Serve with butter and syrup. Utility In Law Tilt Wit n City Of Springfield EUGENE bn Mountain States I Power Co. has charged in circuit' court that certain Springfield City) officials have violated the Oregon and United States constitutions in attempting to take Mountain States Eroperty without "due process of iw." The charse is part of an amended complaint filed with the court as thj latest step in an at tempt by the private power firm to enjoin Municipal Power from en forcing a safety code ordinance. The ordinance would place the administration of a .safety code in the hands of the manager of Munic ipal Power, a close competitor with Mountain States for the put year. Mountain States, which claims 2,350 of the city's 3,800 electric users, charged that city officials are attempting to strangle the private firm by the ordinance. The ordinance would require Mountain States to pay $1 per pole in fees to replace or install poles and $5 each for other work ap plications. ' "This would necessitate hundreds of permits at great expense, hin derance, and delay," the powei company declared.
