Glover, to discuss plans for the second grade group oi tne umard school. It was de cided that each mother is to take their turn in sponsoring the work project and entertainment for the week their daughter has charge of it. Mrs. Eddie Dorrah is to have the next meeting at the home of the leader, Mrs. Collins. She plans to introduce some bead work for the group. Refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Glover, to Mrs. Dean Collins, Mrs. Eddie Dorrah, Mrs. Henry Trobough, Mrs. Cal Schiermeister and Mrs. 0. 0. Wy man. Mrs. Gladys Amund son who is the executive director of the Douglas County Council of Camp Fire Girls met with the group to instruct them about the ranks and honor beads to ba work ed for. She gave the girls some advice. At present, the girls are starting to work on embroidery for household articles. -The following officers were elect ed: Suellen White, president; Dor othy Branun, vice-president; Doris Wicker, secretary; Wilma Barron, song leader; Jean Lesher, scribe; Ella Mae Rowe, monitor and Bar bara Johnson and Verna Strcight, treasurer. HOME EXTENSION BETTER DRESS SHOP HOLDS MEETING JAN. 24 The preliminary training for the Home Extension Better Dress Shop was held Jan. 24 at the Rivers dale Grange Hall and was attend ed by 20 women from Cams Val ley. Miss Betty Jane Paterson was in charge. The leaders will go to Roseburg for their training March 6, 13, 20 and 27. They will then re turn to their fields and teach classes on the succeeding days. Leaders in Camas Valley are Mrs. William Cunningham and Mrs Dave Thrush. Last year when the Cotton Dress Shop was held Camas Valley had the largest class in Douglas County, according to Mrs. Cunningham. FOLK DANCERS TO MEET THURSDAY The Roseburg International Folk Dancers will meet Thursday evening at the new Roseburg Wom an's clubhouse at eight o'clock. Anyone interested is asked to dial 3-7004. ELKTON METHODIST WSCS HOLDS SESSION IN CHURCH PARLORS The WSCS of the Elkton Metho dist Church met in the church par lors Wednesday with the president, Betty Grimerude officiating at the regular work meeting day. Fancy work was the theme of the outlined program of the afternoon. An invitation from the Christian Church was extended to meet with them in the Christian Church Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Cards had been sent to the following sick; Evelyn and Ann Binder. The devotional work was under the direction of Mary Beckley. She read from the book of Acts. The hostess, Mrs. Clara Riley, served delicious refreshments to the following members: Mrs. Bet ty Grimarude, Mrs. Thelma Ladd, Mrs. Jean Weatherley, Mrs. Anna Franklin, Mrs. Emma Monner, Mrs. Mary Beckley, Mrs. Edith Weatherley, Mrs. Velma Binder, Mrs. Grace Sawyers, Mrs. Edith Gates, Mrs. Edith Madison, Mrs. Mary Haines and visitors, Mrs. Irma Hoffman, REv. Mr. Hamil ton, Mrs. Vera Demitt and Mrs. Hanna Madison. The ctlurch room was decorated with evergreens by Mrs. Grace Sawyers. Several pledges made months ago were voted to be paid. HIGH SCHOOL DANCING CLASS TO MEET EVERY MONDAY EVENING The newly organized High School Da.icing Class will meet every Monday night from 7:30 to 9:30 o'clock in the Roseburg School of Dancmg on Kane Street, accord in? to an announcement by the instructor and studio owner Ralph Patterson. A large number of high school boys have already enrolled in the class and Mr. Patterson states that more girls are needed in the class. MARCH OF DIMES JAMBOREE SLATED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT I The Lookingglass Grange will sponsor a March of Dimes Jam boree Feb. 2 at eight o'clock in the evening at the Grange Hall. There will be an auction and any one wishing to donate may call or leave their donations at the Grange Hall. CHILI FEED PLANNED FOR THURSDAY NIGHT The Douglas County Sheriff's Posse will hold a chili feed Wednes day evening as a means of contri bution to the March of Dimes. The Posse members will have fun i night exhibitions. The public is in vited to attend. All proceeds from the chili sales will be given to tne polio fund, RIVERSDALE GRANGE TO HOLD DINNER PARTY The Riversdale Grange will hold a 6:30 o'clock dinner Friday eve ning. Tack In Luna., Child Dies During Surgery PORTLAND Wl A one-year-old girl died on the operating table at St. Vincent's hospital Monday as surgeons tried to remove a tack from her lungs. She was Christina Higgins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Higgins, Portland. 'The coroner said she swallowed two tacks last Thursday. One was coughed up but the other became lodged in the lung.
