Willis of Myrtle Creek, and Dewey Roscoe Clay, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. George D. Clay of Myrtle Creek, enlisted in the United States navy on Oct, 16. Both men graduated from Myr tle Creek high school last year. Leslie enlisted in the U. S. naval reserve in March 1950 and re cently received orders to report for active duty. Under current regulations, which permit men in ular navy if they so desire, he decided to enlist for a four vear enlistment so he could enlist un der the naval airmails program. Upon completion of Recruit training in San Diego, he will at his category to enlist in the reg tend a school for naval airmen for eight weeks before being as signed to a naval aviation squad ron or aviation unit. Douglas Timber Included In Coos Sale By B.L.M. COOS BAY A bid of $128,997 by the Menasha Plywood corpor ation was the highest offered for a Coos county timber tract con taining 4,965,000 board feet of Dfcig las fir timber at Tuesday's auction conducted by the bureau of land management. The Long-Bell Lumber company bought 1,225,000 board feet of west ern Douglas county timber at the appraised price of $26,172. A volume of 2,185,000 board feet of timber was sold for appraised value of $43,400.50 at the bureau of land management oral auction sale conducted by M. H. McCormack Oct. 17. Two parcels of timber were of fered at this oral auction sale with Roseburg Lumber company submitting the appraised price for one tract. The other tract of timber received no bids. This tract of tim ber can still be sold within the next 90 days at the appraised value if a bid is submitted during this period. One other tract of timber con taining a total volume of 955,000 board feet was offered for sealed bidding Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. at the regional office, Swan island, Port land. Veterans School Frauds Lead To More Arrests WASHINGTON -OS) The FBI has announced the arrest of 22 persons on charges of fraud against the government in connec tion with the G. I. educationl pro gram. Fourteen arrests were made In Miami, Fla., two in Detroit, one in Dayton, O. two in New York City and three in the Newark, N. J. area. FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover identified those arrested as em ployes, officials, and ownera of five vocational schools. Hoover said the alleged frauds total more than $350,000. In the past 10 months, he added, FBI investigations have resulted in the arrest of more than 300 persons charged with veterans school frauds totaling close to $1,000,000.
