GAMMA CHAPTER HELD I TWO MEETINGS TO DISCUSS FUTURE PLANS Gamma chapter of Nu Phi Mu held a meeting May 16 at the home of Miss Janet Buckingham. Co-hostesses were Joan Hannan and Donna Pinard. The guest speaker for the evening was Miss Lois Fitzgibbons, physical educa tion teacher at the high school who gave a talk on physical fit ness. Following the program re freshments were served. A second meeting was held June t at the home of Miss Ruby Wiley. Glenna Sue Gill and Ruth Davis were co-hostesses. Plans were made fur a bowling party to be held June 12 and a skating party to be held June 19. It was re ported that the girls would usher at the rodeo. Refreshments were served to Mrs. Morris Bowker, Mrs. W. K. Krooch, Betty Hedge, Betty Taucher, Ruby Wiley, Glenna Gill, Shirley Spencer Lila Sallee, Joan Hannon, Janet Buck ingham and Donna Pinard. MOORE-MORIN MARRIAGE ANNOUNCED IN YONCALLA Mr. and Mrs. Ray Morin an nounce the marriage of their son, Ray Eldon Morin, to Miss Abby Moore of Roseburg. The wedding took place in Drain, June 6. with the bride's sister and husband and the bride's mother as witnesses. Mr. and Mrs. Morin left immed iately after Ihe ceremony lor a short honeymoon. They will live in a new cabin at the Texaco service itation, Yoncalla on their return. JOB'S DAUGHTERS GUARDIAN COUNCIL TO MEET AT TEMPLE The Douglas county guardian council of Job's Daughters will meet at the Roseburg Masonic temple Thursday evening at seven o'clock for a dinner and business meeting. All members of guardian councils of Douglas county are invited to attend. Hitl scher, both 84-yeari-old, of Seattle, Wash., cut a "wedding cake" at Ihe celebration of the 60th anniversary of their marriage at St. Paul, Minn. In Utah Mrs. Robert Harrison of Roseburg has gone to Utah to visit her parents while her hus band, Robert Harrison, is in Ft. Lewis, Wash., at the National Guard camp. Visitad Here Mr. and Mrs. Ray Putnam of Prineville have returned to their home after visit ing Mr. and Mrs. V. V. Harpham and their daughters, Janet and Joyce, of Roseburg. Weekend At Coast Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Knight of Roseburg spent last weekend at the coast. Also with them was their daugh ter, Peggy, and Joanne Ware, Roy Van Horn and Bob Sullivan. Son Home Private Vernon Teater of Fort Lewis, Wash., was home the last two weeks visiting his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Teater of Roseburg. Vernon was here on a 10-day furlough and a weekend pass to visit his parents over Father'! day. Roturn To Roseburg Mr. and Mrs. Sidney C. Moon Jr. of Rose burg have returned to their home following a two weeks vacation lo western points of interest. They visited Bryce, Zion and Grand Canyons and then went on to He met, Calif., where they visited Mr. Moon's mother, Mrs. Gene vieve Moon. They also went to Reno and Las Vegas. Worrall left Sunday lo attend a summer session at Ihe Southern Oregon College of Education in Ashland. She will study art and music. She has ac cepted a position to teach in Green school near Roseburg next year. Her daughter, Evangeline, will ac company her and attend Senior high in Roseburg, where she will be a junrur. Mr. and Mrs. William Hobson of Ashland called on friends and rel atives in Canyonville last week, prior to Mr. Itohson's going back into the navy. He is to report for duty June 20 at Seattle He is in the navy reserve. Bolh Mr. and Mrs. Hobson are graduates of Canyonville high school. M r s. Hub' on is the former Rosaleen Mault. She will make her home with her mother, Mrs. Beulah Mault in Ashland, while her hus band is in the service. Mrs. Beulah Mault, former resi dent of Canyonville. has recently purchased a house in Ashland where she and her other daughter, Joyce, reside. Mrs, Mault is a practical nurse in the Ashland General hospital and Joyce will be a sophomore in high schiK! next year. She is a member of the Ashland city band which has a membership uf 60. Mrs. Brad Wynter and two girls returned to their home in Tacoma, Wash., last week after visiting a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Shaw, and other rel atives and friends. The Stiaws and Bud Schroeiler accompanied Mrs. Wynter to Tacoma and remained for a few days. Janice Wynter returned to Canyonville with them. Mrs. Mary Shaw of Seattle also accompanied them and is visiting at tlid Shaw home. Miss Helen Hnskin has returned to Canyonville for the summer. Mrs. Homer Radford, Miss Eve lyn Radford and Kenneth Radford went to Santa Cruz, Calif., last week to attend commencement exercises for Wilbur Radford who was graduated from the Glad Tid ings institute. He was a former graduate of Canyonville Bible academy. Mr." and Mrs. Hugh Carter of Eureka, Calif., were guest! Thursday at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bartley. On Friday they drove to Eugene to visit his his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Royal Carter, and then to Portland to visit olhcr relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stanley and Mrs. Will Slock returned home last week from a trip to California. Frances, Maxine and Leon Oaks are visiting relatives in San Francisco and Chico, Calif. They are employed in the Myrtle Creek brunch of the VS. S. National bank. Bill Crowl is now in San Fran cisco, his mother. Mrs. Clarence Crowl reported tins week. H t has been discharged from t h e navy. In World War 11 Bill served three and a half years He was recalled in October. Part of the time was served in Korea Resides his parents, his wife and two children live here. He is ex pected to arrive home soon. Nationwide Drug Srort Closing Is Proposed SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. CP An official of the Massachusetts Pharmaceutical association says an attempt will be made soon to close 50.000 drug stores across the country for one day in protest lo the superenie court decision in validating fair trade laws. Martin F. Adamo. chairman of the association's fair trade com mission, told the annual conven tion here that representatives of 4 state groups will meet in Chicago within two weeks to dis cuss the closing. Return From Vacation Mrs. George Horton and daughter, Do lores, and Mrs. Glenn Archer and son, Larry, have returned to Rose burg following several days vaca tion in Portland and Canada. In Portland, they went to the Ice Follies and in Vancouver, B. C., they watched Donald Horton, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Horton, and his partner. Cookie Archer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Archer, compete in the Capilani regional skating contest. The two won third place and may go to the National Skating contest in Cleveland, Ohio, where they would have a chance of winning first I place. Both Larry and Cookie came home with their mothers. EL DON THOMPSON Mr. and Mrs. Merle Clark and family returned home Saturday from Kansas where they had vis iter! relatives since the first part of May, Sidney Meacham went to Port land last week and returned with a new car. Leslie Crane was elected direc tor of school district 58 for a three year term at the annual meeting Monday evening in the school house. Another meeting will be held on Thursday evening, June 28 at eight o'clock, so the clerk's books may be completed for the school year ending June 30. Any bills should be presented at the meeting. Gene and Dorothy Meacham are expected home from Pittsburgh, Calif., where they went last week to visit Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kerr. Miss Loretta Oleson went o n duty Monday at the Ward's Butte Lookout post, and will remain on duty until fall when the fire dan ger is over. The veneer mill was closed Mon day because a major breakdown occurred Saturday evening. Work will resume as soon 'as the ma chinery can be repaired. Small-Frys Herd Trout After Break ENTIAT, Wash. Entiat valley kids staged their fish roundup at a nearly dry mill pond, herding thousands of trout through ankle deep mud to shal low water where they were acooped up with buckets. It was a field day the like of which most anglers see only in their dreams. The atage wai set for the OPS less bonanza when the state Game department planted 40,000 fish this week in tne Harris company mill pond on the Entiat river. Most ol them were of legal lize.
