Roach, ion of Dr. and Mn. Morris H. Roach, of Roseburg. Th engagement wet announced at Wheaton college, Wheaton, III., by the ringing of the Tower Bell, a traditional campus ceremony. The bridegroom-elect is a candidate for the ministry and is under the care of the Southwest Oregon Presbytery. He will be a senior next fall at Wheaton college. Mrs. Phillip Scallon served the GOLDEN WI9DIN0 EVENT HELD IN EUGENE FOR JOHN BROWN FAMILY Mr. and Mrs. John Franklin Brown celebrated their golden wed ding anniversary June 3 at the River Road clubhouse north of Eu gene. The Brown family lived for many years in the Tenmile com munity and Mr. Brown was a school teacher in Douglas county. They were also early leaders in estab lishing the Kansas day picnic in the Roseburg district. A large group attended the an niversary. The afternoon hours were spent visiting, looking at pho tograph albums and taking pic tures. Lovely floral arrangements decorated the refreshment table and Ihe rooms, and background music was provided by Mrs. Lee. BOB WEBSTER HONORED AT SHOWER PARTY RECENTLY Mrs. Bob Webster was the in spiration for a lovely affair re cently, when Mrs. Albert Boone and Mrs. Don Lovell complimented her with a pink and blue shower and a handkerchief shower in honor of her birthday anniversary. The party was held in the attrac tive home of Mrs. Albert Boone in Winston. The rooms were beauti- fully decorated with large bouquets of roses and sweet peas. Games were played during the evening Hours ana a number of clever prizes were awarded, after which the honored guest opened her gifts. She was graduated from Roseburg Senior high school and has been employed by the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. in Roseburg. only recently re turning her position. (Velma) Herman, Roseburg, who has done out. standing work as chairman of the Board of Control for Theta Rho Girls' Clubs of Oregon, was again elected chairman of this Important youth group for the coming year. As chairman during the past year, Mrs. Herman instituted new clubs at Warrenton, Molalla, Willamina and Canby and reacti vated one at Turner, making a total of 44 clubs in the state with about 1600 members. Girls are 12 to la years of age and every club is sponsored by the Rebekah lodge In its respective commu nity. Mrs. Herman has visited all the clubs of the state and held eight district meetings. To Beta Iota No. 57, Salem went the award for having the most members giving the obligation let ter perfect in open club and hon orable mention to Alpha Sigma, No. 42, Prairie City; and Beta Mu No. 60, Warrenton. Other members of the Board of Control, Theta Rho Girls' Clubs of Oregon, who will assist Mrs. Herman during the coming year, are, Mrs. Florence Scott, Prairie City; Mrs. Ann Underwood, Esta cada; Mrs. Vernice Schultz, Flor ence; Mrs. Genevive Embrie, Cascade Locks, and Mri. At the recent sessions of the Re bekah Assembly of Oregon, held at Klamath Falls, permission was granted the Board of Control to conduct a Theta Rho Assembly, ev ery year, the third Friday in June, starting in 1952.
