PORTLAND COUNCIL A large group of local girls and guardian council members will leave Thursday morning for Port land to attend th 27th session of Grand Guardian council of Job's Daughters in Oregon. Ada Moore, grand guardian and A. E. Peter son, associate grand guardian, will preside. The council will open with formal dinner at the Portland ho tel Thursday evening. For Budget Meal Try Texas Hash By GAYNOR MADDOX NEA Staff Writer To make a little hamburger go : a long way, try this hearty recipe. Tas Hash i Two large onions, sliced, 2 green peppers, cut line, 3 tablespoons fat, 1 pound hamburg, 2 cups canned tomatoes, cup uncooked rice, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 2 teaspoons salt, W teaspoon pepper. Cook onions and green pepper I slowly in hot fat until onions are yellow. Add hamburg and fry un-, i til mixture falls apart. Add toma- I toes, rice, and seasonings and mix. ! Put in large greaeu casserole, cover, and bake in moderate oven (375 degrees F.) 45 minutes, or : until done. Serves 8. To serve 4, j divide recipe in half Variations: 1. Instead of rice, use 1 cup uncooked spaghetti, mac i aroni or noodles. 2. Substitute 1 ! cup chopped cleery stalks and , Waves for green pepper. 3. Use 1 j teaspoon paprika instead of chili ( powder. j Sausage and Apple Patties Two medium apples, pared and cored. 2 teasoons lemon juice - (about), dash of salt, 1 pound sau sage meat, 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion, 1 cup crushed rai sin bran. Cut apples into six V-inch slices. She i was director of the Conservatory of 1 Music of Albany college and then for many years was head of the ! music department at Linfield. I where she resigned in 1947 to live and teach in ber family home at ' Beaverton. j Miss Clement was graduated from Pacific University Conser- ; vatory of Music with a diploma in piano. She received her bache lor of muiic degree with major in organ from Northwestern univer- i sity. Chicago, and her master of j music degree with major in piano from Coombs College of Music, j Philadelphia. She was awarded honors by the , French government in 1939 in Fon tainebleau and received a diploma ' as concert organist and a diploma as iciiiif-r ui me uikiii. apt-m years of study in the United States supplemented by a year of piano with Alberto Jonas in Germany and a summer of Ofjan and theo retical work in France with Nadia Boulanser and Ludovic Panel. Miss Clements has presented many concerts in cities throughout Oregon. More recently, she has ! given frequent concerts on elec tronic organs as she has had her own Hammond since they were first introduced. She is immediate past president of the Oregon Mu sic Teachers association; member, of the American Guild of organists : : and a member of Delta Kappa ; Gamma and Mu Phi Epsilon. Season with lemon juice and salt. . Combine sausage meat, onion, and 1 I bran and shape mixture into 12' Ismail balls. Place balls between: ! two sheets of waxed paper and flatten into patties, inch thick. Put together in pairs with an ap ple slice between patties.
