Tun., March 27, 19S1 -r SOUTH AFRICA AND JAPAN STUDY TOPICS FOR MISSION GROUP A ttudy program on Japan, pre sented by Mrs. Kay l'lark,and the Congo, led by Mrs. Kdith S. Ack en, highlighted the March meet ing of the Mission society of the First Christian church. Mrs. Kees mentioned the fine supply of toys that had been re ceived at the mission for their two-year-old son, Ben Allen, which would supplant the sticks, wires and old tin cans he had previously used for toys. Mrs. Rees c o m menled upon the urgent need for more missionaries and told of the Max Randalls, who had recently arrived to work in the area. Preceding the program, a busi ness meeting was held, led by President Elsie Coffrll. Following the scretary's report, a discus sion was held on mission objec tives, which include the Kiamichi mission in Oklahoma, one at Ilinll man, Ky., and some interests in Japan. The date lor the World Call dinner will be announced soon and it is honed to have information on the White Swan Salmon dinner soon, in order to hold it in May. Attending the meeting were Edith Stages, Alice Barker, Emma Berkley, Fay Clark, Klsie Cottell, Martha Knox, Edith S. Ackert and Toni Crenshaw. The next meeting will be in the evening, April 13. MR. AND MRS. BILL MADSON ARE HOSTS SATURDAY NIGHT Mr. and Mrs. Bill Madsnn en tertained several of their friends March 24 at their home on Walnut lane. Visiting and cards were en joyed during the evening. Refresh ments were served. Klamath Indian Faces Federal Murder Court KLAMATH FALLS OP) A federal murder charge has been placed against 63 year old Charlie Captain, who admits striking Na than Wright with an axe at Chilo quin last Friday. Wright, 35, died about four hours after he was struck on the head. The men. both Klamath Indians, were involved in an argument over $20, Indian service officers said. Captain was arraigned before U. S. Commissioner Bert C. Thomas and ordered to the county jail without bail. Timber Industry Equipment Survey Begun In Oregon An intensive survey of equip- ment and materials used by the timber industries bas been started j in southwestern Oregon by the Roseburg branch of the U. S. For ' est Service experiment station, ac cording to Forester G. L. Hayes. Hayes said the purpose ol the survey is to avert shirtages of manpower and critical logging and sawmill equipment anvi supplies. Plans for the survey, which is to be nation-wide, have been re viewed and approved by a num ber of logging and lumbering as sociations, including those promt nent on the west co;:st. The information obtained will be used by the National Production authority for allocating men, I equipment and materials to the ; timber industries and to manufac I tures of equipment; for certi ' fication of production loans; and for accelerated amortization of e.pment for income tax pur ooses. The National Securities Re- ! sources board will use It for pro gramming wartime production oc frest prducts and equipment. Hayes sard that plants and oper ations that are on thi sampling list will be informed by letter. Defi nite arrangements will be made later by a representative of the experiment station. Grant County Votes Bonds For Courthouse CANYON CITY (PI Grant county will get a new courthouse, almost complete returns from a special election indicated. The old courthouse burned down last year. The vote was 928 to 235 for con struction of a courthouse. A pro posal to finance the construction with a $250,000 bond issue was passed, 914 to 240.
