He obtained different effects with colored lifhts. illustrating such well-known songs as "Swanee River." "Old Man River," and "Old Black Joe." J Cwjk Wed., Feb. 14, IrSl The Newi-Review, Roseburg, On. 13 Civilian Defense Topic At Meeting Of Oregon Posses Over 300 posse members attend ing the annual meeting of the Ore gon Association of Mounted Posses Feb. 3 at Corvallis heard State Civilian Defense Director Louis Starr point out the role that moisted posses should ' play in civil defense. Gov. Douglas McKay also spoke at the event, at which the Benton county posse acted is host. Several Douglas county dele gates were in attendance. Includ ing Mr. and Mrs. John Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Tipton, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Strode, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Sherlock, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller and Warren Wilson. Matt Vetcha was elected presi dent of the group, succeeding Dusty Rhodes who had served for three years. Vetch was presented a mohair bridle for his work as secretary and coworker with Rhodes, who was given a bronze horse statue. The Ladies auxiliary of the Benton County Sheriff's Posse en tertained the women at the wom en's club room. Shake, who died Sept. 1, 1DS0, in a house fire, has been admitted to probate by order of County Judge Carl C. Hill. The deceased died in Arizona, but left property in Douglas county. Ira B. Japs Bow To Demand On Northern Fishing WASHINGTON W) The State department announced the Japanese government has agreed to prohibit its nationals from fish ing in the Eastern Pacific and Ber ing sea, members of the Washing ton congressional delegation said. Fire In Army Repair Shop 'Claims One Life ANCHORAGE. Alaska P A serviceman was killed Tuesday in a fast-spreading fire which de stroyed a heavy repair shop at rort Richdrdson. Damages to the year-old two- story concrete structure were esti mated at $500,000. Several army vehicles were also believed lost in the fire. The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of relatives. The building was used by the army engineers for maintenance of their heavy equipment.
