F.d.r.l Trad, commission has Issued two ord.rs prohibiting prie. fixing sgr.em.nts among pro ducers and distributors ol Douglas fir plywood products and Doug las fir doors. Th. ord.r on plywood products was directed against the Douglas Fir Plywood association, the Douglas fir plywood in formation bur.au, 15 corporations, and Wallace E. Difford of Seattle, former managing director of the essocietion. The commission held that the corporations, with !h. coop peration of the association and the information bureau, conspired over a six-year p.riod, 1935-1941, to r. strain and suppress com petition by agreeing to fix and maintain th. pries, t.rms and discounts. The order on doors names the Fir Door institute of Tocams, Wash., eight corporations and Dif ford, former manager of the Door institute as well ss heads of the Plywood association. The commission held that the respondents censpired to fix prices, terms end discounts on Douglas fir doors and, by agree ment, quoted prices on s delivered basis only, the quotations includ ing freight chsrges computed from Tocama regardless of the origin of shipment or the sctusl freight rstes. The price fi. ing agreement extended over a period of about four years from January 1938 to November 1941, the commission said. Conspiracy Denied In Tacoms. 0. Harry Schrader Jr., now managing director of the Plywood association, termed the plywood case "ancient history.'1 fiywooa sales promotio.. today both legal ami successful. Schrader said in a ststement. "There is no conspiracy and there will be none," he said. "Ac tivities of the association are strictly promotion strictly in ac cord with the letter and the intent of the law." Noting that the commission order names only IS companies out of il lirms now manufacturing fir plywood, Schrader ssid the indus try, "though believing that the chsrges sr. ancient and obsolete, agreea to entry oi tne order solely to dispose of the case snd avoid long drawn-out hearings." John OHara Harte. Manasinc director of the Fir Door institute, said st Tscoms that th. long-discontinued "practices to which the government objects were pert snd parcel ot tne original NKA setun and were later continued by the war production Doard and th. of fice of price administration." Hart, called th. ess. "election year politics." "It is significant," h. said, "that th. original complaint against th. fir door industry was made in 1948, at a time when th. election was warming up. He ssid the esse lay virtually dormant until lata October of this year less than three weeks before election day. Defendants Listed , . Of th.
