Charles Ferguson of Coos Bay announce the arrival of a third daughter, Barbara Jean, born Sept. 15 and weighing s i x pounds seven ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson were former Canyonville residents. O. W. Gill, manager ot the Tro jan Wood Products company near Diddle flew to I.os Angeles on business last week- The Bertha Rcbekah lodge No. 88 of Canyonville, will meet at the hall in Riddle Tuesday night, Sept 26. Mr. and Mrs. George Childress recently purchased the Waller Hoi man house in Canon Manor and have taken up residence there with their three sons. Robert Proctor took over the operation of the Union Oil station in Riddle last week. It was pre viously managed by Robin Ma jure. The Canyonville PTA executive committee held its first meeting of the fall season in the office of Principal 0. J. "Sue," then a child of nine, was riding in the car of the William Tysons 33 years ago when they picked up Babonet walking along day at the beach. The Tysons had never seen Babonet before or since' but the quiet Austrian im migrant never forgot that day. The program in cluded reports on various phases of the mineral show held recently. The large attendance each day and evening of the show testilied to the interest of local residents in the activities of the club. PYTHIAN SISTERS TO HOLD MEETING THURSDAY The first fall meeting of temple No. 23 of Pythian Sisters will be held Thursday nrlht, Sept. 28, at 8 o'clock at the K. P. hall. The temple had an active spring term at which time the district conven tion was held at Medford and the Roseburg temple won second place in competitive drill. District con vention will be held in Roseburg next spring and it is the desire of officers that all members attend meetings in the future to. make plans for the convention. During the summer months com mittees have been active raising money to buy dishes for the temple. AMERICAN LEGION I AUXILIARY HAS INTERESTING MEETING Umpqua Unit No. 16, American Legion auxiliary held its first fall meeting Sept. 20. 8 p m. 118 S. Kane St. with President, Mrs. Louise Young, in charge. Mrs. Marion D. Mark, Editor of the American Legion auxiliary De partment Newspaper and Depart ment Publications chairman spoke briefly to the members, announc ing that headquarters for the Leg ionette will now be in Roseburg. Mr. and Mra. Theodore H. Mark are formerly of Bend, Ore. . The day sewing chairman for the coming year will be Mrs. Jen nie (Arthur) Midland. The evening sewin? group will be headed by Mrs. Jane (Ialo) Stephens and Mrs. Louise (James) Young. The first meeting of the evening sewing group will be held0' the home of Mrs. Betty Moore, 428 Pitzer, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29. Those members at tending this group are asked to bring any old felt hats or felt pieces. A surprise birthday Celebration was held for the president, Mrs. Louise Young, after regular busi ness session. He said only about 150 griev ances came to the hoard of gov ernors in the past year and one third were over fees and one third were over supiosed settlement de lays. Oraion, he reported, has 1855 ac tive lawyers. Ten years ago there were 1881.
