of a third daughter, Barbara Jean,
born Sept. 15 and weighing s i x
pounds seven ounces. Mr. and Mrs.
Ferguson were former Canyonville
residents.

a nun teaching in a New Orleans
school under a vow of poverty.
She is Sister Eugenia who be

nun, jovial ratner man ascetic,
confirmed that she is tie "Sue"
to whom Babonet left $10,000 be-
cause she and a neighboring
ily befriended him some 33 years
ago.

mother and a gentleman whom
she declined to identify called her
by telephone.
Asked what disposition she would
make of the money, she replied:
"Our life is dedicated to the
poor, any money 1 get will be dis
tributed to help the poor and no
one organization will get the lump
sum.
"Sue," then a child of nine, was
riding in the car of the William
Tysons 33 years ago when they
picked up Babonet walking along
day at the beach. The Tysons had
never seen Babonet before or
since' but the quiet Austrian im
migrant never forgot that day.
"If I live to be 1,000 1 never
forget that day," Babonet wrote in
his will and left the Tysons $100,

MEETING WEDNESDAY NIGHT
The Roseburg Writers club will
hold its first meeting after a sum
mer adjournment, Wednesday eve
ning at 8 o'clock at the home of
Dr. and Mrs. George Houck.

HAS INTERESTING
MEETING THURSOAY
The Umpqua Mineral club held
a very enjoyable meeting Thurs
day evening in its club room in
the K.P. hall. The program in
cluded reports on various phases
of the mineral show held recently.
The large attendance each day and
evening of the show testilied to
the interest of local residents in
the activities of the club. Some of
the collections of local members
are classed among the best in the
country.
Delicious refreshments. In
charge" of Mrs. Bob Simonson, were
served. Mrs. Simonson was" ap
pointed as progiam chairman for
the remainder of thr year.

PYTHIAN SISTERS TO
HOLD MEETING THURSDAY
The first fall meeting of temple
No. 23 of Pythian Sisters will be
held Thursday nrlht, Sept. 28, at
8 o'clock at the K. P. hall. The
temple had an active spring term
at which time the district conven
tion was held at Medford and the
Roseburg temple won second place
in competitive drill. District con
vention will be held in Roseburg
next spring and it is the desire
of officers that all members attend
meetings in the future to. make
plans for the convention.
During the summer months com
mittees have been active raising
money to buy dishes for the
temple.

MEET AT POTLUCK
The Stedfast class of the First
Presbyterian church will meet at
a 12 o'clock potluck luncheon

briefly to the members, announc
ing that headquarters for the Leg
ionette will now be in Roseburg.

are formerly of Bend, Ore. .
The day sewing chairman for
the coming year will be Mrs. Jen
nie (Arthur) Midland. The evening
sewin? group will be headed by
Mrs. Jane (Ialo) Stephens and
Mrs. Louise (James) Young. The
first meeting of the evening sewing
group will be held0' the home of
Mrs. Betty Moore, 428 Pitzer, 7:30
p.m. Sept. 29. Those members at
tending this group are asked to
bring any old felt hats or felt
pieces.

was held for the president, Mrs.

That was reported by Oregon
State Bar Secretary Lee W. Karr,
at the annual convention.
He said only about 150 griev
ances came to the hoard of gov
ernors in the past year and one
third were over fees and one third
were over supiosed settlement de
lays.
Oraion, he reported, has 1855 ac
tive lawyers. Ten years ago there
were 1881.
