May 29, at ten o'clock at St Joseph's Catholic church by Miss Delcres Sterns and Oliver A. Durand, with Father Edmund Hyland officiating in the presence of a large group of re latives and friends. The double ring ceremony was used. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron W. Sterns of Roseburg and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Felix A,- Durland, also of this city. The bride wore a gown of white moire taffeta fashioned Princess style with long sleeves. Her fin gertip veil was held in place by a seed-pearl embroidered Du t c h TRAVIS WILSON IS HONORED AT FAREWELL AND BIRTHDAY PARTY Travis Wilson, ho left Sunday for San Diego to enter boot camp, was honored with a combination farewell and birthday party to mark his 17th birthday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arch ie Wilson, of Winston, Saturday evening, Large bouquets of roses were used about therooms and a group of interesting games were led by the hostess, Mrs. Wilson. At the close of the evening a beautifully decorated birthday cake was cut in his honor and guests bonnet. A spray of stcphanotis out lined the headdress. She carried a white prayer book topped with an arrangement of gardenias and satin ribbons. Miss Stella Durand, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor and Miss Norma Lee Pinard was bridesmaid. They wore yellow and lavender emboridered organdy gowns with contrasting headbands of sweetpeas and ribbon. They, carried bouquets of sweetpeas. Jack Harkin was best man and Erick Olsen was usher. The bride's mother wore a red suit with a corsage of red car nations. The bridegroom's mother wore a floral suit with a corsage of white carnations. Both the bride and bridegroom were graduated from Roseburg high school. The latter is employed in construction work in this vici nity and upon their return from California, they, will maketheirLsU'uction in ritualistic work. The Rev. W. W. Appleyard of the Dillard Methodist chruch officiated. The bride given in marriage by her fathe.-, wore an afternoon frock of figured material. She car ried a nosegay of roses. Mrs. Ver non D. McNess was matron of honor. Ren Benson, father nf the gronm, was best man for his only son. Mrs. C. Wayne Fraser of Seat tle, aunt of the bride, was in charge of the floral arrangements, which included baskets of calls lil lies and a bouquet of pastel shaded roses and pinks which graced the lace covered serving taole. Mrs. T. A. Dundas, grandmoter, of the bride, had charge of the guest book and Mrs. Ben Benson, mother of the groom, poured and Mrs. V. D. McNess served. Guests at the wedding and re ception included Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Dundas of Newport, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dundas of Albany, Mrs. C. Wavne Fraser of Seattle, Rev. and Mrs. W. W. Appleyard of Dil lard. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Benson, of Tiller, Mrs. L. L. Borders of Days Creek, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon McNees. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Mc Nees, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Baird, Mrs. James Jelinek, Mrs. William Cox, Mrs. H. M. Anderson, Miss Dana Baird and Miss Pat McNees. The couple left immediately fol lowing the reception for a short honeymoon. They are now at home at Tiller where Mr. Benson is en gaged in the logging business. CHAPTER NIGHT AND INITIATION HELD BY WOMEN OF THE MOOSE Mrs. Nancy Wulf, district com mander of the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary, was guest sneaker at the meeting of Women of the Moose, Monday, June 26 at the Moose hall. Mrs. Wulf in her talk on membership, stressed the Quality of members in any mem bership drive as being the most important factor. Col. and "Mrs. Maynard Bell of Washington D. C. , were honor ed at a very delightful family re union dinner Sunday at the sum mer home of Mrs. M. Hazel Dixon on the North Umpqua. Covers were placed for the two guests of honor and Miss' Minnie Bell, Mrs. W. W. Willis, Lester and Louis Hillman Bell, Mr. and Mrs. Worth Davis and children, Dee Ann, Dixon, Dam and Daur ice; Mrs. Trotter, Miss Rosa B. Parrott and the hostess Mia. Dixon. Lt. Co!, and Mrs. Bell plan to leave Sunday for Portland to take the plane for Washington, D. C, following a month's leave visiting relatives and friends in Roseburg and Canyonville. Mrs. Bell, the former Evelyn Willis, is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs.'W. W. Willis of Canyonville. Lt. Col. Bell is a son of W. D. Bell of this city. CHAPTER HAS MEETING AT FREDRICKSON HOME IN CLOVERDALE RECENTLY Mrs. Sid Fredrickson entertained Alpha Theta chapter of Beta Sig ma Phi at her home in Cloverdale recently. This was the final busi ness session until the fall months. The program, in charge of Helen Lordon and Mr. Eugene Krew son, was a talk by Mrs. May Mathews on "Home Building and nanmng." COUPLE MARRY IN SEATTLE, MAY 29 'Miss Juanin Stiff, daughter of Mrs burg, and Kenneth Hayes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hayes of Lor ane, were married May 29 in Seat tle. The Rev. Harlow Hayes, broth er of the bridegroom, officiated. The bride was honored at a bri dal shower earlier in the IOOF hall at Lorane. Mr. and Mrs. Hayes are now at home in Cottage Grove. Refreshments were served by Fay Jensen, Bernice Parker and Millie Beckwith. Murray celebrat ed her 88th birthday Thursday, June zz at her home, 328 fcasl Douglas street. During the af ternoon many of her friends call ed to congratulate her on her birthday. She received many gifts. A long-time resident of Douglas county, Mrs. Murray was married in 1880 at Camas Valley, moving there thd previous year. She has three daughters, Mrs. Story lies, of Roseburg, Mrs. Lela Stacey of Sacramento, and Mrs. Clara Baker, also of Sacramento, who is spending a month here with her mother. PINK AND BLUE SHOWER HONORS MRS. BOB HERBAGE Mrs. Bob Herbage was honored Friday evening at her home in Cloverdale park by a group of friends at a pink and blue shower. Cards were played during the even ing and refreshments served by the guests. Mrs. Herbage received many gifts. Honoring her were M r a. Duane Rolls, Mrs. Louis Adamski, Mrs. Terry Connolly. SUNSHINE CLUB HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING A potluck luncheon featured the Northside Sunshine club meeting Thursday at the home of Mrs. William Stiewig. Lilies decorated the table. A social afternoon fol lowed and Miss Barbara Irving was presented a birthday gift. Pollyanna gifts were exchanged. High prize at games was won by Mrs. Phil Hart. She was guest of honor at a monthly meeting held recently at Hotel Benton by the Corvallis club, Zonta International. Miss Moats, who was graduated from Corvallis high school this month, claims an outstanding activity record for her school years. She has been a member of Girls League, Trl-HI-Y, a member of the senior council and Albany-Corvallis rela tions committee, rally squad and Peppers. In addition Miss Moats is past worthy advisor of St.. Mary's assembly No 16, Order of Rainbow for girls, in Corvallis and Is grand patriotism for the State of Oregon assembly. She plans to enter Oregon State college In the fall. Wimberly Sr. Swings and sandboxes on the patio were enjoyed by the guests, who were all two-year elds with the exception of the guest of honor's four.year old brother. (Picture by Peul Jenkins) SUTHERLIN COUPLE CELEBRATE FORTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY An enjoyable time was had at the Wayne Smith home at Med ford, when the family of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barnes of Sutherlin gathered for several days' to cele brate the fortieth wedding anni versary of Mr. and Mrs. Barnes, which occurred June 16. All the children of the honor guests were present. Mrs. Wayne (rhclma) Smith, at whose home the group was entertained is the only daughter. Her family consists of her husband, Mr. Smith, a son and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Lawerance Barnes lid small daughter came from Santa Cruz. California; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Barnes and three chil dren, from Eugene: Bill Barnes, a son, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lapp, brother-in-law and sister of Mr. Barnes, from Coos Bay; Mrs. R. J. McAuley and son. a sister of Mrs. Barnes, from Oakland, California; Mrs. A. P. Johnson, sister of Mr. Barnes, from Sacramento, Calif. A large wedding cake was cut in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barnes. That week also marked the anniversaries of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Ted ' Barnes.
