The board authorized the de partment to spend $1,972,676 for the two-year burigpt period ending July I, 1951, or $346,269 more than the legislature authorized. The state fair got permission to spend $K62.844, or 141 .70S more than the legislature authorized. The state education agency for surplus property won permission to spend $176,233 in addition to the Slots Revenue Loss Purs PORTLAND, May 5-(.tWrhe American Legion's Portland post No. 1 has put its elaborate club building up for sale, because of the loss of revenue from slot ma chines. The post said it would dispose of the big structure and seek small er quarters, provided it receives a satisfactory price offer. The three-story building, which includes a swimming pool, gym, auuuo- Hum, dining room, and many lounges and club rooms, cost $62, 000 in 1946. Al Grecnwalt, chairman of the board of trustees for the building. said the post was not in fiancial distress, but did not want to con tinue losing money. The ban or slot machines has cut sharply into the revenue of almost all private clubs here. "We've done everything we can in the past year and a half to maintain it and keep going," Greenwalt said.
