The University of Washington school of dentistry has invented a machine that can take a picture of all your teeth in one-third the normal time. You might even enjoy a ride you get while the picture is being taken. Like most all scientific items, the process has a long-handled name. Its "Panographic Radiogra phy." The apparatus takes a panora mic picture by scanning the en tire dental arch. Tne patient is in a fixed position in the chair, as usual, the school of denistry says. But the maching moves and the chair revolves slowly. While all this motion Is going on the machine is taking a full-mouth X-ray. using only three films. They show the upper dental arch, ! the lower dental arch and the crouns of both upper and lower teeth. i The present conventional method j requires 18 or more separate pic tures. For that many pictures your aching jaw is open at least 30 minutes. The three-minute method , is all finished in less than 10 minutes. It also saves the dentist pro cessing time and stoiage space. In the process a narrow beam of X-radiation is directed through the tissues to a specially-shaped lead-backed lilm. A pulsating cur- , rent eliminates blurring as the den tal arch is scanned.
