Ths clubroom was a thing ot beauty thanks to St. Valentine and hearts and flow ers were much in evidence. Those red carnations added a touch of oh so necessary -color, after stretch of nature't white for the past few weeks. The guests urged spring's ar rival bit and arrived in spring fashions. Both hostesses, on the petite side, added a vivacious note to the afternoon, Jo Sedcll wearing a smart navy blue and tan and Grace Stcvcr in a trim grey en semble. Belly Adams arrived in a new navy blue suit with matching hat with gardenia trim . . . Kathryji Bailey selected a black frock with gold and silver sequin trim . Kav Martin wore a new spring print and Kthel Twohy was stun ning in a black suit with blue ac cessories. Many eyes turned to admire Hard Dawe In her brown outift topped with smart while hat . . . and Maxine llcnninger was chic in her black suit with Persian lamb trim and smoke gray cha neau. Unable to attend due to Illness was M.i. Scott Layman ot tugene, former Roseburg resident . . . three long tables, artistically ar ranged, seated some fifty guests. One of four beauties will be se lected tonight by popular vote as queen of the Sweetheart ball, spon sored by four local Beta Sigma Thi chapters. In, a selling of St. Valentine what could be more ap propriate than a Sweetheart queen. And who will crown this beauty None other than Al MrBee who will be master of cer ionics. At the stroke of eleven he will place UiO crown on htr head. Gerry Ohman and VI Boucock. co-chairmen, have been hard at work with their energetic commit tees, completing arrangements fo' the ball. Vi said she hopes this will be an annual affair. And Val entine's dny offers a host of ideas for decorating. There will be eu pids, hearts, arrows, and red and white streamers. Ajiainst this set ting the Beta Sigma Phi members their invited guests and escorts will dance to "good local music." For mal attire is dictated for the lad ies Mary Ann Barker heads the de corating committee and all soro rity memben are anticipating an evening to be remembered for a long time. JOHN WILSON HONORED WEDNESDAY ON 79th BIRTHDAY Mrs. John Wilson was honored on her 79lh birthday Wednesday February 1 at a meeting of the Merry Go Round club which met with Mrs. W. H. Carter for a one o'clock potliick luncheon. Mrs. Wilson is the mother ot Mrs. Car ter. The dining table was centered with crystal vases of pink carna tions and matching pink tapers. A birthday cake was cut in Mrs. Wil son's honor. Attending were Mrs. M. B Green, Mrs. John Wilson and Mrs. Fred Vehring of Roseburg; Mrs. J. Harold Nichols of Brockway; Mrs. J. H. Carnes of Kelley's Kor ner; Mrs. Ivan Brosi and Mrs. J. K. Masters of Winston and the hostess. During the business session the club voted a donation of five dol lars to the March of Dimes. Elec tion of officers will be held at a later date. Visiting was enjoyed until the close of the meeting. PIANO STUDENTS GIVE PECITAL AT HOME OP MRS. CLARENCE RAND Mrs. Clarence Rand presented a group of her students in a recital at her home in Laurel wood Friday evening. After the students pre sented their numbers a social hour was enjoyed. Participating were Charlrne Parker, Glenn Hunter, Milton Schweppe, Maxine Hunter, Paula Smith, Ronnie Smith, Carol Ann Hunter, a student of Miss Gladys Strong, who played several num bers. ALTAR SOCIETY CIRCLE WILL SPONSOR DANCE Plant for the St. Patrick's Day dance to be held at the armory March 17 were discussed at the meeting of St. Joseph's Altar so ciety, Circle No. 1 Wednesday eve ning at the ichoolhouse. Mrs. H. C. McDonald, president of the circle, and general chair man of the nance, said proceeds will benefit the St. Joseph's build ing fund. LUNCHEON IS ENJOYED BY BELLVIEW CLUB AT COLLISON HOME WEDNESDAY Bellview club met at a delightful twelve-thirty o'clock luncheon Wed nesday at the home of Cora Colli son with Ethel Roselund and Echo banning aa hostesses. The serving Uble was covered with a beauti ful lace cloth. Streamers of red hearts and tall red tapers centered the lovely birthday cake. Guests and those having birth days in January, February and March were seated at the table. Smaller tables, decorated with red hearts, were used for the other members. Covers were placed for Lora Kester, Cora Rogan, Belle Huff, Eleanor Gilbreath and daugh ter, Zeta; Phyllis Cunningham and daughter, Jill; Edith Branch. A donation was voted to the scholarship loan and fellowship fund and also a do nation was voted to the March ot Dimes. An interesting talk on Panama in relation to the fellowship fund wae given by Olive Walker. Dur ing roll call, by request, Irene Walker gave the poem she hart written for the SOth anniversary roll-call. Pollyanna gifts were enjoyed and names were revealed and new names were exchanged for the coming year. The next meeting will be Wednes day, March 1, at two o'clock at the home of Betty Zuck with Beth Boyer and Carmen Bennett, hostesses. J. Fett of Roseburg, and David Moor:, ton of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence I. Moore, Sunday, Jan. 22, at the First Meth odist church. Rev. W. A. MacAr thur performed the impressive cer emony at three o'clock in the after noon in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. Mrs. Paul Geddes, organist, play ed the wedding marches ana ac companied Elliott Perkins, who sang, "I Love You Truly." The altar candles were lighted by Mrs Glen Miller, who wore a gown of soft green with a wristlet and head band of white chrysanthemums. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was beautiful in a gown of white satin fashioned with a net yoke with lace shoulder ruffle and long sleeves. Her veil was trim med in lace and held in place by a coronet of pearls. She wore a white fire opal ring, a gift from the bride groom, and carried a bouquet of white carnations centered with a large white orchid and tied with a shower of white satin ribbons. The bridal party advanced to the altar down the center aisle, which was covered with a white carpet. Mrs. Tyler Evans, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and wore a gown of pink satin fashion ed with a net yoke, full skirt and matching pink satin elbow-length mitts. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations outlined with white net. Mist Sonia Fett. aister of the bride; Mrs. Ike (Marge) Weaver, and Mrs. Russell (Memoree) Os born, sisters of the bridegroom, Mrs. Joe (Jerry) Dent, Mrs. Bar ney (Betty Jane) Shirley and Miss Carol Kerr were bridesmaids. They wore gowns of satin in shades of pink and blue fashioned to match the matron of honor's. They wore satin mitts and carried bouquets of pink and white carnations encir cled with net. Sue Osborn, niece of the bridegroom, was flower girl and wore a pink satin floor-length gown. She wore pink ribbons in her long blonde hsir and carried a miniature bouquet to match the bridesmaids. OAKLEY HONORED AT SURPRISE HOUSEWARMING PARTY Mr. and Mrs. James Oakley and son, Ted, were honored at a sur prise housewarming party Satur day evening, when friends called at their new home in Laurelwood A loely gift was presented to the Oakleys. Games were played. Mrs. Lora Kester conducted the meeting with Mrs. Byrd presenting the devotions from Luke 6, using as her topic, "A tree is known by its fruit." Group singing was fol lowed by prsyer led by Mrs. Wood cock, who also led the Missionary lesson in the absence of Mrs. Mel ba Mobley, who was reported ill White cross work snd visiting were enjoyed. Collins presented the cultural phase of the evening's pro gram. A social hour closed the evening and the hostess served refresh ments at a table decorated with Valentines and forsythia. The bride's table wat covered with a white organdy floor - length cloth trimmed with pink ribbon and pink Rose Elfe clusters and streamers. The four-tiered wedding cake cen tered the table. The cake was white with pink and green decorations and topped by a miniature bride and bridegroom. Two bouquets of pink Rose Elfe roses in crystal vases flanked the cake. Baskets of pink and white carnations, snap dragons, stock and chrysanthe mums were arranged about the tooms. The cake wss cut by the bride and the bridegroom and served by Mrs. Horace C. Cerg. Mrs. John Lander Jr., and Mrs. W. H. Carter served the coffee and punch. As sisting in serving were Mrs. Rob ert Major, w'.io acted aa hostess, and Mrs. Lawrence Wiley and Mrs. Alan Knudtson. Fol lowing a honeymoon to San Fran cisco and Los Angeles, the couple will be at home to their friends in West Roseburg. Both the bride and bridegroom were graduated from Roseburg high school and both attended Uni versity of Oregon. The bride is a member of Alpha Omicrom Pi so rority and the bridegroom it a member of Ktppa Sigma frater nity. The latter terved three and one-half yeara in the South Pacific and is now associated with Ump qua Valley Appliance. The bride is employed in the office of her father.
