S Concert Assn.'s Member Drive To Be Held In April Margaret Blackburn waa In Roseburg this week conferring with the Roseburg Community Concert association directors rela tive to spring membership drive. The drive will be held this year from April 17 to 22, Instead of in the fall, it was announced by Gladys Strong, association presi dent The change, said Miss Strong, was requested by the lo cal board, and the request was granted by the concert service. Miss Blackburn met with the board Wednesday night to make preliminary arrangements. From the office of Floyd ow ell, assistant manager, comes an announcement that something is to be attempted this Easter sea son by tne nospitai never Deiore tried; and that is an Easter morning sunrise service. The site selected is across the street from the nurse's home with an altar erected near the wooded area. Above this, a large white cross will stand. Banks of flowers will be placed at either side and the entire area will be aglow with tiood ngnts on tne nights oi uood Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday. A stage will be built with a speaker's rostrum near the cross, covered by a canopy. A piano will be there for the benefit of the choir, composed of a group from the city. Chaplain A. S. A young attorney took over for Bez" between halves. He was an orator already, although just fresh out of college. He must have been good because Oregon came from behind and tied it up 10-10. This was the fall of 1913. The talker in the barn was none other than our new Supreme Jus tice Earl C. Latourette. In the stands that 'day was Douglas McKay a stater fresh man, now our governor. We like to remember, too, when on the trains for; the Big Game the fine voice of Judge La tourette would hit the' tenor in improvised quartets, harmonizing boo r-ieisons immortal song: "The Days at Oreeon." ,We like to recollect some of the Legion conventions where Doug McKay was always In there pitching" for the disabled veteran. Snow Crushes Hangar, Destroying Five Planes THE DALLES. Ore.. Jan. 20 UP) Snow-weight crushed the citv-owned airport hangar at ortn Danes last night, demolish ing five planes. Three other planes were dam aged. Only one housed in the frame quonset-type building was undamaged. There has been a total of 30 inches of snowfall here and stresses on roofs has been ter rific. Jan. 20 UP) President Truman talked over his tax plans with Democratic congressional leaders and tax ex perts today and got some sugges tions irom tnem lor changes. White House officials said aft erward that Mr. Truman still planned to send a special tax message to Congress next veek. There was no indications wheth er there has been any change In ins announced pian to propose a "moderate" tax boost as well as revisions of present tax laws.
