Mjolsneis, Salem, state relations officer for the Red Cross in Oregon, greets Bill tvens on the letter's election es chairmen of the Dogles county chapter Monday evening at the annual chapter meeting in the armory. When the new community hospital Is built, the Gray Ladleg will be Joined by another volunteer group the Nurses Aides. This was told at the annual i chapter meeting ot the Red Cross Monday by Mrs. Edward R. Tit-1 comb, chairman of volunteer services, who said the program has been handicapped by the lack of a certified hospital where vol unteers might be Instructed and qualified for the Nurses Aide service. With the realization of the pro posed community hospital, both facilities and an opportunity for the development of this service will be available, she pointed out. Mrs. Titcomb gave one of the principal reports at the annual meeting, held in the Red Cross rooms in the armory. Following her report and others by com mittee chairmen, members of the board elected officers. Bill Ev ans was chosen chairman for the coming year. Water Program Told Coach Ray Brown reported on the water safety program, In which he has been an instructor this summer at Rosebure's new swimming pool. Four hundred and twelve people have actually attended classes, while the total registration was 683. One nun dred and five pupils qualified for Beginners ceruucaies. Brown said beginners' classes closed last week, and the remain der of the summer will be de voted to Intermediate instruction and Junior and senior life saving. Beginners' classes are being re organized, 'to permit all children who want to learn to swim to do so before the close of the sum mer. Brown also told of the aquatic school at Wild Cat lake, near Bremerton, Wash., which he at tended, together with William Chatham of Drain and Miss Jan Pprker of Reedsport. Chatham is conducting swimming classes In the pool at Drain, wnue Miss Parker is to conduct classes at Lake Cleowax, near Reedsport. The swimming coacn related that he took instruction ir. row boating, and although he hai been in row boats all his life, the "first thing I did was wrong." In common with most other peo nle. he has "pushed the boat out and taken a flying leap" in order to get In. That's wrong. Brown said he hopes to organ ize classes in proper use of row boats for local fishermen, after this summer's swimming pro gram is completed. John Zenor, former first aid chairman, told of the activities of his committee, which included issuance ol one instructors cer tificate in 1948 and 24 in 1949 10 Junior certificates. 110 stan dard certificates, and 24 advanc es certificates. Fourteen first aid 20 Men Initiated In Moose Lodge A class of 20 men was initiated Into the Roseburg Moose lodge in ceremonies held at the new Moose hall July 13, according to raoose secretary K. u Kains. Local Moose Governor Jerry Willis reminded all Moose pres ent that they and their families are urged to attend the PAL show to be held at Finlay field July 21 at 7:30 p.m. The local Moose are sponsoring the appearance of the Portland boy's club. classes were held. First aid stations were set up and manned by volunteers at the Reedsport rodeo and the Drain Living War Memorial dedication, both in July, 1948, and at the re cent Roseburg rodeo. Highway emergency first aid stations are now set up and operating at Glide, Big Camas Ranger sta tion. Diamond lake, Tiller, and Scottsburg. Mrs. Vera McClintock Jones, radio publicity chairman, spoke on public information activities.
