He dis cussed the program and told how members in attendance were given the opportunity to see how city, county and state govern ments tunction. Sanitarians Speak Paul Howen and John Ket chum, sanitarians of the motor court section, Oregon State Health Department, were visitors as guests of County Sanitarian Claude Baker. Each spoke brief ly discussing their work. Howen stated their department's aim is educational rather than that of making arrests. He said they plan to visit motels about the state every six months if possible, and to suggest methods of sani tary improvements, especially as to sewage disposal and water sanitation. Ketchum, elaborating further, said that their effort Is to elim inate breeding places of flies and insects as carriers of disease. This is most effectively done by cor recting sewage disposal methods. Karl Feucrhelm, Rogue River, a visiting Lion, invited members to his community at any time. and especially to a donkey base ball game July ia. unanes Wil son was a guest of Edell Bryant. Humorous sidelights were a fish story told by Bruce Elliott, and a firecracker backfiring incident told by Ivan Pickens. Hears Representative Geddes Representative Paul Geddes, speaking at the monthly meeting of the Oregon State Employes Association Thursday night, ex plained the function, Importance and value of lobbyists at the State Legislature. , This was preliminary to his interesting and helpful discussion of the manner in which O. S. E. A. presented its program at the last legislative session. Little also enjoyed visiting Fran cis Herron, a former Marine bud dy, who served with him on his first enlistment on a trip around the world with the Marines. Here For Weekend Rodney Houser of Portland Is spending the weekend in Roseburg visit ing his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Knight, on West First street. His father, R. B. Houser, representative for the Western Auto Supply Com pany, brought him to Roseburg Wednesday and left yesterday for Myrtle Creek to attend to busi ness, after which he will visit coast points. Rodney will attend the Peewee baseball game here Saturday night to see his cousin, Philip (Buck) Knight, of Port land play shortstop with the Portland team. Buck and his fa ther, Attorney William W. Knight, will arrive here from Portland tonight. Buck will visit his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Harry F. Hatfield, and his pa ternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Knight.
