Jan. 29 UPy The economic winds stirred up a nint yesterday tnat wages, like prices, may have reached a post war peak. In some cases, they may nave started a downward trend. More than 300.000 auto and electrical workers of the General Motors Corp., stand to take a two or three-cent an hour pay cut on the basis of the government's de clining cost-of-living index. And officials of at least one major union, the CIO's Amalga mated uiotning workers, said they have decided against a fourth round of postwar pay boosts because of slackened de mand for men's apparel. "We're Dractical realists, vou know," one clothing union official told a reporter. "We've decided against asking for any new wage increase now, even tnougn our members feel the price pinch, too, because rlcht now our industry is soft."
