Although this will be only the first of a possible three games, to the winner will go the honor of representing Roseburg In the district finals slated to begin Monday. However, because of the lateness of the season, both managers agreed that the winner tonight will be the official entry Into the district competition with Cottage Grove and Springfield. The two remaining games will be played after the district finals, probably August 23 and 25. Because of the Interrupted city plavoff schedule, Roseburg may be 'represented by a team which actually may not be the city champions. For Instance, if Suth erlln wins tonight, the official records of the district playoff officials would enter Sutherlln Pastime as the entry from Rose burg and all players from Rose burg would wear the green and while of the Taverners. However, after the district entry Is decided. 1 Sutherlln may return to Finlay I Field and lose both of the re i mainlng city playoff games. In Winchester Bay Area I Two Chinook salmon, o .e the largest to be caught on hook and line In the Winchester Bay area for many years, were landed Tuesday by Howard Hinsdale. Gardiner. The largest weighed ii pounds, while the other tipped the scales at 45 pounds. The world's record for hook and line is an 83 pound salmon taken at Winchester Bay In 1910 by F. R. Steel, Portland. Best catches, it Is reported, are being made by trolling pilchards for lure. All-Stars Chosen To Vie in Softball District Playoffs Softball managers, represent ing the seven teams In City Soft ball League competition, Wednes day night named the 13 mem bers of the all-star team who will represent Roseburg in the dis trict playoffs next week. Top honors went to Schemer's Squirts, first half league champs, with six of thel starting nine named to the all-star roster. Suth erlln Pastime placed four men and VFW and Pepsi-Cola each placed two. Youngs Bay placed one but neither Montgomery Ward nor Umpqua Plywood Is represented. Although the Roseburg players have been named, the official team entry will not be determin ed until the crucial tilt tonight between the Pastlmers and Squirt. Talbot, O'Rourke Head Boxing Card For Tuesday Night Rudy Schlotthauer, Rosenurg boxing promoter, said yesterday that local fight fans will get a break Tuesday night when he brings an all-star card to the Arm ory. Not only will fans see 30 rounns oi weu-macrnea noxing, but the ticket prices have been reduced by 25 per cent. Headlining Tuesday's five-bout card are Leo Talbot of Portland and Georgie O'Rourke, young San Francisco heavyweight. Al though O'Rourke Is a stranger to the local fight circle, Talbot will be making his third appearance in the Armory. In previous fights he lost via the K. O. route to Roseburg's Dallas Bennett May 4. then scored a convincing six- round decision over Gordon Mc Kay two weeks ago. Talbot looked like an entirely different fighter in his last at pearance than in his Roseburg debut against Bennett. Tabbed as the underdog, Talbot completely outhoxed the Klamath Falls giant and floored McKay twice during the contest, with hopes of a re match with Bennett sometime In the future, Talbot Is taking his bout with O'Rourke seriously. Bennett has accepted his chal lenge but only on condition that Talbot make as good a showing Tuesday night as he did agaimt McKay. In announcing the semi final bout. Schlotthauer spoke with pride of Bueky O Conner the newest addition to local fight circles. In spite of local crltlcsm regarding training for the fight ers. O'Conner has agreed to ap pear on the next card. Two weeks ago, he moved to Roseburg from Fresno, cant., ana tnree aays after his arrival, he began his niphtlv workouts in the gymnas ium at the high school football stadium. Local fight critics will be Interested In knowing that O'Conner goes through a regu lar workout seven nights a week and will be In top shape fop Tuesday's card. Three weeks ago Hager, the popular Oregonlan, won the third and deciding fall by turning a winning Hesspll maneuver Into a winning press. Last Saturday Hessell defeated Hager in a re turn tilt with a trigger hold, hut the commission ruled the belt could not chance hands on a one-fall verdict. Thus the third and deciding skirmish Saturday. There were no fistic flurries Saturday, hut the going got pretty rough at times and both matmen may "blow their tops with the blue chips down on this third engagement.
