Aug. ll.-t The Agriculture Department yesterday forecast thii year's corn crop at 3,506,363.000 bushels and the wheat crop at 1.284,323,000 bushels. These figures were based on conditions prevailing Aug. 1. me com estimate Is 177,501,000 of 3,328,862,000 Indicated a month ago. ii compares also with last year's small weather plagued crop of 2.400.952,000 and the ten year (1937-46) average of 2,813,. 529.000. The previous record was 3,249,950,000 In 1946. The wheat figure Is 42,572,000 bushels more than 1,241,751,000 forecast a month ago for the sec ond largest of record. Last year's crop was a record one of 1,364, 919,000. The ten-year average Is 942.623,000. The wheat estimate Included 981,415,000 bushels of winter wheat, 46.151 .000 bushels of dur um and 256,757,000 bushels of oth er spring. A month ago the winter wheat estimate was 951,958,000 com pared with 1,067,970,000 last year and 688.606,000 for the ten-year average. Last month's estimate for dur um wheat was 44,354,000 com pared with 43,983.000 last year and 34,619.000 for the ten-year average. The forecast for other spring wheat was 245.439,000 last month compared with 252,966, 000 last year and 219,398,000 for the ten-year average. Estimates on Other Crops The Aug. 1 estimate for other crops, compared with last month, last year and the ten-year aver age, respectively. Included. Egg production In July was re ported at 4.459.000.000 compared with 5,019,000.000 In June, 4,523, 000.000 in July last year and 3, 914,000.000 for the ten-year July average. TIMBER AUCTIONS DATED PORTLAND, Aug. 12. Two timber auctions involving 46.889,000 feet appraised at $771. 569 were listed today by the U. S. Forest Service. A sale at Grants Pass Aug. 24 will offer 33,964.000 feet of fir on the Johnson Creek area of the Siskiyou Forest. Rilea Raps Plan to Tak Over National Guard PORTLAND, Aug. 12. CD A proposal that the Army tak' over the National Guard has drawn criticism from Ma. Gen. Thomas E. Riloa and Gov. John il. HhII. Gov. Hall said the plan whereby states would use men not subject to regular military duty and over age groups would leave the state hopelessly unable to perform a Job when needed. The State Adjutant General called the suggestion "another move" by the Army to get con trol of the state reserve units. "The thing has been simmering for a lone time," Gen. Rllea added. He said It is made at this time because Guard equipment Is not up to par and quarters are Inadequate. He blamed this condi tion on lark of funds and supplies due from the federal government.
