SUTHERLIN Mary Martha Club met at the Christian church Friday with Mrs. I'nrcie Grovel und Mrs. Dorothy Lonjibrake as hostesses. Mr. Klelnfeldt was a puest at tho potluck dinner. Mm. Hilla Johnson and Mrs. IVrrie Grove! Teceived a beautiful thre-tiered birthday cake, baked by Mrs. ISetty Stanifotil. The group joined In singing, "Happy liiithday." Mrs. Jean Barnes, vice-president, called the business meet ing to order. The lord's prayer, was repeated in unison. Roll call was responded to with Scripture verses. Mrs. Jean Thiel, second-viec-presiilent, was In charge of the devotionals. The scripture read ing consisted of Luku 13 :34 and Luke 1942 to 44. In the absence of Mrs. Klein cldt. the Missionary lesson was given by Mrs. Jean Barnes, who carried on with the subject In dia. One very note-worthy fad was brought out that two of In dias greatest Christian leaders are member of the Cabinet. A letter was read by the secre tary from Miss Marie Shelburne and her sister, Mrs. Sareuta Saucerman, who are making their home at 1217 Broadway, Pa r s o n s, . Kansas. McDonald in Garden Valley. Dancing and games will be enjoyed during the social hour. The proceeds of the party will go to the Parents Club Fund to be used for the children of the parish. Backers of the program plan to ask Congress for an appropria tion of $50,000,000 for the fiscal year starting July 1, The main purpose of the "voice" program, beamed to Soviet-dominated countries as well as to non- Soviet nations, is to acquaint for-; eign people with the aims and i objectives of the United States 1 and this country's role in world affairs. The new legislation provides I for a dual program with educa- 1 tional and informational features. ! It authorizes the State Depart ment to arrange for the exchange with other nations of students, teachers, technicians and "per sons, knowledge and skills" and to set up abroad information cen ters at which foreigners may learn more about the United States.
