Arrive From Sweden Mrs Clark Leedy, nee Meredith Anne Jenkins, and Liu Johannson have arrived in New York, following a visit with the latter's relatives In Sweden and numerous trips to various countries In Europe. The two were accompanied to Swe den by Miss Kyza Erickson. of Se attle, who remained at Stockholm with relatives. They left the states last March 14 on the Grinsholm. OP A bill to outlaw all "Jim Crow' practices In Oregon will be spon sored at the next state legislature bv the CIO Portland Industrial Union .Council. The council said It wanted a law giving all races and creeds eoual access to restaurants and other public places, and barring real estate covenants preventing certain races from choosing where they may live. Funeral Services Set For Mrs. Amanda Strohm Funeral services for Amanda Strohir, 85, who died Jan. 13, will lie held in the chapel of the Itosebwg Funeral Home Satur day, Jar. 17, at 2 P. M., with Rev. Kenneth Knox olllciating. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Lela Culllson, Fort Ord, Calif., and Miss Delia Marie Strohm, San Francisco; two sons, Clyde C., Ontario, Oregon, and Guy F. , Miillala; a sister, Mis. I.ucv Heed, Mapleton; a brother, A. W. Bryan, Lakcvicw, Oregon; one granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren. Interment will follow in Civil Rend Cemetery. Red Official Nabbed for Deportation to Russia WASHINGTON, Jan. 16-W The Justice Department today announced the arrest for depor tation to Russia of Alexander Blttelman of New York, a na tional committeeman for the Communist party In the United States. Blttelman, the department said, has been a resident of New York City since December. 1931. He is alleged to have used 14 aliases. Six Persons Injured In Train Derailment CROSS CITY. Fla., Ja. 16 I.V Eight persons were Injured, none seriously, when six cars of the Southland, Chicago-to Tampa passanger train, were derailed near here today. The five rear Pullmans and one diner of the Atlantic Coast Line train left the track and landed on their sides In a ditch. Mrs. Helen R. Custaf son, special nurse, stands by. In the muscle reeducation treat ment for her limbs, Miss Lattin receives hot packs, which are changed several times daily. Del McKay, city chairman of the March of Dimes, pays a call on Miss Lattin to admire her paint ings, which may be seen on the walls of her room at the Rose burg Sanitarium. Although she has lost the use of her hands during an 11 year siege of Infantile paralysis. Miss Aileen Lattin, patient at the Rose burg Sanitarium, Is an accomplished artist who has painted more than 100 pictures during the past four years. Miss Lattin, who specializes In .oils, uses long brushes which she fjrlps between her teeth. Likewise, she writes with pen or pencil, or turns the pages of a book as It rests on a bedside easel. It was Miss Latin's uncle who first Interested her In painting. Four years ago he came to visit her at her home, which was then at Empire, Ore. Asking what he could get for her, she replied, "Oh, some paint brushes!" She then set out to paint with water colors. During the Christ mas season she designed 200 Christmas cards. Then a friend Introduced her to oils with which she has painted more than 100 pictures. Some of her paintings decorate the walls of her room at the san itarium. They Include Dutch windmills, a large moose stand ing In the wilds, and various forms of still life which are a composite of many pictures which she has studied. Miss Lattln's paintings have appeared In several exhibits, In cluding the recent Roseburg Wo man's Club art and craftti show. Picture Aids Dimes March In Coot Bay one year, during the March of Dimes, her painting of a clipper ship sold for $330. the money being turned over to the drive. Before she painted the picture. Miss Lattin studied pictures and read descriptions of clipper shins for a month Some thing about the lines of her ship seemed not quite accurate, but an old sea cantaln at Coos Bay set her straight and the picture was a success. Prior to coming to Roseburg, Miss Latin was in an Iron lung at the Doernhecher Hosnital at Portland. Here she has been re ceiving treatment In muscle re education from Miss Mabel Ward, phvsical therapist.
