Sister Dies Mrs. Paul Blaskey, 408 Rowe St., has received word of the death of her eldest sister, Mrs. Clara Peets, at Grant, Mich. Mrs. Peets had never visited in Roseburg. but a younger sister, Mrs. Lizzie Shellanbarger, who died last year at Tucson, Ariz., had visited here. Mrs. Peets was a member of the Baptist Church. Art Class to Meet All adult persons interested in joining an art class, to be under the aus pices of the University of Ore gon Extension department with Miss Jean Suthei lin as inMructor, are asked to attend a meeting at 7 o'clock Wednesday night at Miss Margaret Carr's room. Helweg orchards In the Winston com munity Thursday afternoon, Jan uary 15. at 1:30 according to J Roland Parker, county agricul tural agent. The demonstration will include methods of pruning' young apple, peach and pear trees, and pruning pear and prune trees. The "Helweg orchards an? lo cated one-half mile down stream from the Winston bridge south of Roseburg. Anyone interested in methods of pruning young or bearing fruit trees is invited to attend the demonstration, states Parker. Am Oregon Trail Boy Scout Council Meeting Dated John Todd, chairman of Doug- his Bov Scout District, announced that the 2:irl annual meeting of the Oregon Trail Boy Scout Coun cil is scheduled Sunday afternoon and evening, Jan. NEW MANAGER Wayne M Lindner, above, is a recent ar rival in Roseburg from Hermis ton, Ore., and has assumed his new duties as manager of the Umpqua Valley Appliance Co. at 120 W. Oak St. The ap pliance concern is a branch of the Umpqua Valley Hardware Co. owned and managed by Ceorga West, who announced Lindner's appointment. Mrs. Amanda Strohm Passes Away in Roseburg Amanda Strohm, 85, resident of this community for many years, died this morning after a linger ing illness. She was born Dec. 13. 18fil. Surviving are two daughters, Delia Strohm. San Francisco, and Mrs. Lela Cullison, Fort Ord, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Reed, Mapleton, Ore., and a grand daughter, Ardene Mattence, Sea side, Ore. Umpqua Service Bailey bridges loaned by the Army were delivered today at the site of the Dillard bridge on the South Umpqua River, where they will be put in place for use while the main highway span is being repaired. The temporary bridge np- oroaches, being erected by lien Doerksen, Roseburg contractor. are not yet completed. 1 he Bailey bridge spans, made of standard ized steel parts, are expected to be lifted Into place "witnin a lew days."
