Sister Dies Mrs. Paul Blaskey,
408 Rowe St., has received word
of the death of her eldest sister,
Mrs. Clara Peets, at Grant, Mich.
Mrs. Peets had never visited in
Roseburg. but a younger sister,
Mrs. Lizzie Shellanbarger, who
died last year at Tucson, Ariz.,
had visited here. Mrs. Peets was
a member of the Baptist Church.

Pruning Demonstration
Dated at Helweg Place
A pruning demonstration will
be held at the Paul H. Helweg
orchards In the Winston com
munity Thursday afternoon, Jan
uary 15. at 1:30 according to J
Roland Parker, county agricul
tural agent. The demonstration
will include methods of pruning'
young apple, peach and pear
trees, and pruning pear and prune
trees.
The "Helweg orchards an? lo
cated one-half mile down stream
from the Winston bridge south
of Roseburg. Anyone interested
in methods of pruning young or
bearing fruit trees is invited to
attend the demonstration, states

Council Meeting Dated

the Oregon Trail Boy Scout Coun

Mrs. Amanda Strohm
Passes Away in Roseburg
Amanda Strohm, 85, resident of
this community for many years,
died this morning after a linger
ing illness. She was born Dec. 13.

Surviving are two daughters,
Delia Strohm. San Francisco, and
Mrs. Lela Cullison, Fort Ord,
Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Reed,
Mapleton, Ore., and a grand
daughter, Ardene Mattence, Sea
side, Ore.

Bailey Bridges Arrive
For S. Umpqua Service
Bailey bridges loaned by the
Army were delivered today at
the site of the Dillard bridge on
the South Umpqua River, where
they will be put in place for use
while the main highway span is
being repaired.
The temporary bridge np-

bridge spans, made of standard
ized steel parts, are expected to

The Bailey bridge sections were
brought here in two large truck
