VP) Oregon's delegation to the western Republican conference expressed dissatisfaction Saturday wilh the method of allotting dele gates for the Republican national convention in 1W-IH. The 1W44 national convention provided for a three-delegate bonus for state which voted Re publican in the 1.144 presidential election or, falling that, which elected a Republican United States senator In 1946. "We think this rule is unfair to some states, notably Oregon. which have preponderant Repub lican delegations In congress," aiu i.owi'ii t.. r-augett oi Port land. He explained that terms of Oregon's senators did not expire In 1946 and hence the state could not qualify, even though both of lis senators then were Republi cans. Padgett said his group would seek adoption of a resolution ask ing the national Republican com mittee "to make a liberal and equitable ruling." Padgett was named chairman of a western states platform com mittee which will draft planks for presentation to the national convention In Philadelphia next year. He was head of a similar group at the 1944 convention. New City Jail Ready For Myrtle Creek Use Myrtle Creek's new Jail, under construction for several weeks, Is completed and ready for use, ac cording to Police Chief L. R. Mc Clintock. The building contains two cells, each with Its own plumbing, window, and doors. Special locks have been prepared by Chief McClintock to make the Iron doors safe from tampering. The jail was constructed of con crete blocks and noured concrete It has a solid concrete floor and roof. Spanish Classes to be Organized at Myrtle Creek Arrangements are being made by Ivan Parker, Myrtle Creek high school principal, for weeklv evening classes In Spanish. First class is' set foi Oct. 17 at 7 P.M. at the high school. JP Oregon's national guard needs recruits, state unit officials re ported today. They said a two month cam paign for 1,590 recruits brought only IMS men Into the mililia service that now has 1,275 mem bers. Oregon's recruiting was one of the lowest In the nation. Withdrawal of U.S. Troops From Korea Sought By DEWITT MACKENZIE AP Foreign Affairs Analyst About a fortnight ago the Soviet Union placed before the Joint American-Russian commis sion on Korea the extraordinary proposal mat Dotn nations with draw their military forces from that strategically situated coun try and let the Koreans form their own government. It was a naive suggestion reminiscent of the famous Invi tation to the fly to walk Into the spider's parlor. The Bolshevists already were credited with hav ing Sovietized the northern half of Korea which they occupy, and to be prepared to perform a simi lar task for the southern part under American occupation. This would place the Koreans under Red domination and give Moscow one of the world's most Import ant military bases this des pite the fact that the gidt pow ers ouring tne war promised Korea her Independence. Diplomatic authorities In Wash ington expressed the view that the Reds didn't exoect the pro posal for withdrawal to be taken seriously but were making it with the idea of gumming up consider ation of the Korean Question al ready under way in the United Nations. However, Soviet For eign Minister Molotov has com plained to U. S. Secretary of State Marshall about the lack of an answer. A spokesman of the American delegation at the U. N. tells us the reply to Mr. Molotov will be that the United States will make suggestions about troops with drawals to the peace organiza tion In effect a rejection of the Soviet proposition. We are en titled to believe that Uncle Sam Isn't proposing anything which would result in the virtual annex ation of Korea hy Russia especially with China Involved In a life and death struggle over communism.
