A short session of the lodge will preceed the entertain' ment. This session will begin promptly at eight o'clock and all Knights are urged to attend. Visit ing Knignts and sisters and mem bers of other lodges who now re side in the community are espe cially urged to come out for the evening, so as to become acaualnt ed with their fellow lodge mem Ders. Chancellor Commander L. L. rowers of Alpha Loclce No. 47. Knights of Pythias announces that Delphi Lodge, of Bandon, has invited the Knight Rank teum of Alpha Lodge to come to Han don the evening of Saturday, Marco m, to put on work In that rank. Members who can make the trip are urged to jcontact Mr. Powers or George Hinsdale or Bob Harvie, who are In charge of arrangements for transportation of the team to Bandon. Kinal plans for the trip will be dis cussed at the regular session of the local lodge to be held Mon day, February 24th and C. C. Powers urges all members, and especially those who can help with the Knight Rank work to attend this meeting and the box social which will follow. FIREMEN'S ANNUAL BANQUET IS HELD The 1!)47 annual Firemen's banquet was a large event of Wednesday evening with Seth B. Thompson, state fire marshall, as '. the guest speaker. On account of . Illness, Mayor Albert Flegel was unable to attend. Special guests of the evening besides Mr. and Mrs. Thompson included: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lund, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Croft, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Whipple of Drain, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Dunn of Camas Valley and Mr. and Mrs. Don Hadahaugn of Roseburg. Covers were placed for seventy. The Valentine motif was used to decorate the horse shoe shaped serving tabic. Fol lowing the dinner the group was entertained as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Radabaugh at Hunt's Indian. INTER BE STUDY CLUB TO MEET NEXT TUESDAY The Inter Se Study Club will hold a luncheon next Tuesday at the Turn-Around Inn and mem bers are asked to make reserva tion!, not later than Monday, Feb ruary 21, by telephoning Mrs. W. Mrs. Marjorle Sheets, lecturer, presented during the lecturer hour a varied program of read ings, songs and stories with Lin coins Birthday as the main theme. mere were thirty-two mem bors and five visitors present. me latter were State Deputy Mildred Norman and her hus band, Edward Norman from Josephine County, Mrs. Vera Mathewman and Mr. and Mrs. William C. Crowell from Fair uaks Grange. The state deputy talked about the grange program in legard to school bills, health, social security for farm workers, insurance rates, sales tax and the work of the Road Com mittee of the State Cranw. Fjirh of the other visitors also spoke briefly. After the close of the Grange e-'c Kirau was given to raise money for the new Grange Hall now under construction. VALENTINE PARTY IS ENJOYABLE AFFAIR The Pine Grove Sunday School at Dixonvllle was the scene of a St. Valentine's party given Feb ruary 14, by Miss Donna Mor berg, and Miss Marilyn West. Throughout the evening games were enjoyed and after delicious refreshments, the group sang songs. . Those present on this occasion were Marge Collins, Beverly Siems, Barbara Sanders. Return to Grants Pass Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shields and sons, Benny and Dale, have returned to their home in Grants Pass, following a trip to Roseburg to visit Mr. Shields' parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Shields. Their son, Dale, is home on furlough from Alaska, where he is stationed with the U. S. armed forces. Dr. John W. Cook, Former Sutherlin Rancher, Dies PORTLAND, Feb. 2.-UP Dr. John Wnley Cook, 86-year-old former Brownsville veterinar ian and Sutherlin sheep rancher, died here Wednesday after a two month illness. Cook, who lived at Brownsville from 1911 to 1924 and then mov ed to a ranch near Sutherlin, came to Portland in 1940. In past years he served as stock judge in many Southern Oregon fairs and sales. He is survived by his wife and two sons, and was a member of the Masonic lodge at Brownsville.
