evening to be cloned with an old

of Alpha Lodge to come to Han
don the evening of Saturday,

Bob Harvie, who are In charge of
arrangements for transportation
of the team to Bandon. Kinal
plans for the trip will be dis
cussed at the regular session of
the local lodge to be held Mon
day, February 24th and C. C.
Powers urges all members, and
especially those who can help
with the Knight Rank work to
attend this meeting and the box
social which will follow.
FIREMEN'S ANNUAL
BANQUET IS HELD
The 1!)47 annual Firemen's
banquet was a large event of
Wednesday evening with Seth B.
Thompson, state fire marshall, as
'. the guest speaker. On account of
. Illness, Mayor Albert Flegel was
unable to attend. Special guests
of the evening besides Mr. and
Mrs. Thompson included: Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Lund, Mr. and Mrs.
Percy Croft, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh
Whipple of Drain, Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth Dunn of Camas Valley
and Mr. and Mrs. Don Hadahaugn
of Roseburg. Covers were placed
for seventy. The Valentine motif
was used to decorate the horse
shoe shaped serving tabic. Fol
lowing the dinner the group was
entertained as guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Radabaugh at Hunt's Indian.

and Mrs. Ray Shields and sons,
Benny and Dale, have returned
to their home in Grants Pass,
following a trip to Roseburg to
visit Mr. Shields' parents, Mr.
and Mrs. B. F. Shields. Their son,
Dale, is home on furlough from
Alaska, where he is stationed with
the U. S. armed forces.
Dr. John W. Cook, Former
Sutherlin Rancher, Dies
PORTLAND, Feb. 2.-UP
Dr. John Wnley Cook, 86-year-old
former Brownsville veterinar
ian and Sutherlin sheep rancher,
died here Wednesday after a two
month illness.
Cook, who lived at Brownsville
from 1911 to 1924 and then mov
ed to a ranch near Sutherlin,
came to Portland in 1940. In past
years he served as stock judge
in many Southern Oregon fairs
and sales.
He is survived by his wife and
two sons, and was a member of
the Masonic lodge at Brownsville.

1947 dog license are due. on or before March 1st. After
which there is a penalty of 25 cents per month also person
found owning or keeping an unlicensed dog is subject to a
fine of not less than $10.00 for each offense.
