Coulter, above, mission ary to China for more than 20 years, will be the guest speaker Friday night at a put luck dinner at 5:30, at the First Christian Church. Mr. and Mrs. Coulter first went to the China mission field in 11122 under auspices of the United Christian Missionary Society, na tional board of missions and Federal Works Agency Public Buildings Administration, Office of the Division Engineer, 838 U. S. Appraisers Building, San Fran cisco 11, California. Nov. 6. 1946. Sealed bids, in triplicate, will be received at this office until 2 P. M., Dec. 6, 1946, and then publlc 1 opened, for furnishing the ma terials, and performing the work for interior painting, new wood flooring, new exterior entrance doors and miscellaneous repairs at the U. S. P. O., Roseburg. Ore gon, in strict accordarce with the specifications dated PB-Div-7, Sept. 20, 1946, and drawings (if any) mentioned therein: and the general conditions dated Sept 15, 1942. and addendum thereto dated May 15, 1944. Specifications and other data may be had at the office of the custodian of the building or the office of the di vision engineer. Earl H. Lund, Division Engineer. Christian education for the Dis ciples of Christ. They were sta tioned at Hofel, Anhwel Prov ince, reached by a Journey up the Yangtze River. Their mission, which Included evangelistic work, preaching, and training Chinese leaders, was temporarily suspended at the time of the Chinese uprising against foreigners In 1927. Mr. and Mrs. Coulter and their three children escaped the city, made a hazardous journey down the river to Shanghai, then proceed ed to the Philippines. They re turned to China the following year. During 1938, the Coulters faced a super-human task in relief work among the refugee from the Japanese attack on China. In December, 1940, Mrs. Goul ter and the daughters returned to the United States, leaving Mr. Coulter on the field. When the United States entered the war, he became a prisoner of the Japa nese. As a citizen of Australia, tie was not repatriated, but remained in a Shanghai prison camp. Upon his release after the war, Mr. Coulter proceeded to Nan king and back to Hofel, where he was able to save much of the mission property from the loot ing of Japanese troops and Chi nese bandits. He came to the United States last April. The Coulters plan to return to China after a furlough. Sutherlin Mr. and Mrs. John Chase en joyed a trip to Salem Sunday. Norval Cockeram of Roseburg was a business visitor in Suther lin Monday. Mrs. W. B. Moore of Portland, spent the past week In Sutherlin visiting with her mother, Mrs. E. M. Upide, and assisting her to get moved. Mrs. Clarlnda Mason, who has been visiting relatives In Suther lin, . recently left for Hillsboro, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Parrott of Gold Beach, Oregon, are spend ing a few days in Sutherlin, visit ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Holgate. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Cook and children, of Eugene, spent the weekend In Sutherlin, visiting with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cook. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Green and child, of Portland, are visit ing the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Green. Roseburg Motor Co Oak and Rose Srs, Roseburg, Oregon Portraits of Four Pioneers Adorn Christmas Seals The 40th annual Christmas seal sale of the National Tuberculosis Association holds inteiest for stump collectors, as well as serv ing as a reminder of its original (impose, tiiat of collecting funds for stamping out tuberculosis. Portraits of four pioneers In the Christmas seal movement are Included on each sheet of the seals this year, Mrs. Ralph M. Church, Douglas County seal sale chairman, advises. The seal are printed In a sheet format of 100, 96 of which carry the 1946 seal "lamplighter" design. Th center four seals, numbers 45. 46, 55, and 56, show In that order, Jacob Riis, Miss Emily F. Blssell, E. A. Van Val kenburg, and Leigh Mitchell Hodges, all ot whom played a part In the first American seal sale held In 1907. The portraits are printed In black on a white background with the names in the lower lefthand corner and a small double-barred cross in red at the upper right hand corner. The same "lamplighter" design la being used this year by Ber muda, which Is having its first Christmas seal sale. The Ber muda seals do not have the photos, however, and the "USA" nasbei'n omitted and the word "Bermuda" Included. The same design Is also being used by Canada and England. The Canadian seals are printed, as usual, with both French and Eng lish "Greetings." Immunization Urged PORTLAND, Nov. 21. (m Immunization of children against smallpox, whooping cough and diphtheria was urged today by the State Board of Health. Dr. Hurold M.
