Cardinals Boost Lead by Two Wins As Dodgers Lose (By the Associated Press) Manager Eddie Dyer's knack of picking the right pinch hitter at the right time has moved the fast flying St. Louis Cardinals into a game and a half lead dver the Brooklyn Dodgers in the sizzling National League pennant race. Dyer put the finger on Rookie Walter Sessi last night and the young outfielder, who had con nected for only one hit in 11 of ficial times at bat, came througn with a two-run ninth inning homer which gave the Redbirds a 3-2 victory over the New York Giants and a sweep of the day and night doublcheader at St. Louis. Earlier in the day, the Cards had broken their first place dead lock with the Dodgers by out slugging the Giants, 13-8, while the Dodgers were bowing to the Chicago Cubs, 4-3. Two Cub runs in the last of the ninth proved the Dodgers' undoing, a few minutes after Reese's eighth inning triple had apparently won for Brooklyn. Trailing 3-2 in the ninth, the Bruins tied the score on Lowrey't single followed by Rlckert's double. Brooklyn Relief Hurler Hank Behrman, passed Scheffing, and Stringer stung him for a payoff double that scored Rlckcrt with the winning run. Feller Beaten by Yanks The New York Yankees handed 22-game winner Bob Feller his 10th defeat when Bonham shut out the Cleveland Indians 4-0. Keller struck out only four bat ters in the seven innings he work ed to raise his season's total to 284, thus falling behind in his attempt to pass Rube Waddcll's record of 343 strikeouts. Orval Grove and the Chicago White Sox shaded Newsom and the senators In Washington, 21, in 12 Innings. With Galchousc pitching two hit ball, the St. Louis Browns shut out the Athletics at Phila delphia 7-0. Cincinnati and the Braves divided a doubleheader, Sain re cording his 15th victory in the 8-4 opening Boston success and Blackwcll registering his fifth shutout in the Reds 20 victory in the nightcap. Detroit finally beat the Boston Red Sox after nine straight losses at Fenway park, downing the American League leaders, 7-2. Judd limited the Pirates to four hits and drove In two runs with a double as the Philadelphia Phils shoved Pittsburgh deeper into the National League cellar with a 4-1 triumph. August 28, win a low total of 39 for the nine holes. Bill Courier won low net with a score of 40-5-35, and Marshall Pengra won long drive. WP) Mrs. Freda Mehlum, 34, German-born, yesterday was denied United States citizenship because of what she-termed a "silly hobby" the keeping oi a scrapbooK oi pictures of ships, mostly of Ger man ships and in which "there might have been" pictures of the German army advancing and one picture of Hitler. She said she had destroyed the scrapbook. Federal Judge Black granted the citizenship petitions of her younger sisters, Mrs. Hildegarde Jensen and Mrs. Lena Guhra, al though expressing himself as "not completely satisfied as to their loyalty to this country the past five years." "After an election," he added, "it is difficult to find a voter who didn't vote for, the winner." The sisters' attorney was Hans Otto Giese, against whom de naturalization proceedings were dismissed in 1944.
