Those at tending are asked to wear picnic clothing and are requested to bring their own table service. - Cars will leave Roseburg between six and six-thirty o'clock and any one desiring transportation has been asked to telephone Mrs Theo Bond at 148-J. OLALLA COMMUNITY S. S. TO HOLD DINNER The Olalla Community Sunday School will hold a potluck dinner June 16 at 12:30 o'clock immedi- ately after the Sunday School hour. At one-thirty, there will be an evangelistic meeting conducted by O. B. Wilson, Jr., of Glendale, Calif., assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Ira D. Stover of Pomona, Cali fornia, and Victor Orr of Jeffer son, Oregon. The evangelistic meetings will continue through the following week each evening at eight o'clock. The community residents are invited to attend. KEYSTONE CLUB TO MEET MONDAY NIGHT The Methodist Keystone Club will meet at a 7:30 o'clock dessert supper Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Earl Wiley on South Kane Street with Mrs. M. M. Dessert-luncheon was served and a round table dis cussion followed. Those attending were Grace Cornish, Naomi Riggs and Mrs. Frank Martin of the committee, Leaders Betty Stamp and Mrs. Harry Scrogguns of the Senior Scout Patrol, Mrs. Towns ley, Brownie leader; Mrs. Warren Willis, Fannie Patton and Lyla Chenoweth of the Intermediate Troop. Absent were Mrs. M. Pat terson, chairman, Florence Cook and Maxine Wilson, committee members. These meetings, which will be held on the last Wednesday of each month, are for the purpose of planning troop activities. It was decided that the troop should be divided into two groups so that the membership may stay open, as a troop should not con sist of more than thirty-two mem bers. The fact that we have a building to meet in, opens Scout ing to a greater number of girls. Each troop is to have a leader and an assistant leader and one of the senior Scouts will also as sist in direction. Troop No. 1 and No. 2 will meet on Friday and Saturday through the summer months at two o'clock until four. The senior- Scouts will meet Tues day night at 7:30 at the Scout Building. These girls are to be especially trained for camp coun selors. The bake sale last Saturday was very successful and the hew dishes for the Scout Building were paid for. The troop wishes to thank Cliffs Fountain for the use of the floor space for the sale. Plans are made for a hike for June 14, to which the whole troop may go. The Myrtle Creek Girl Scouts have been invited to visit the troop on June 22, at Sutherlin. They will bring a potluck lunch eon and a gel-to-gether-play-day is being planned. Camp dates have been set this year for August 4 to 11 Inclusive, to be held at Wolf Creek. While many of the troop could attend if camp was held at Camp Cleo wox at Florence, there would be many that would not be able to go. The distance is considered too far for some of the younger mem bers to be away from home. A rigid rule will be followed this year that will require one adult for every eight girls and a registered nurse will be necessary because of the greater number planning to attend this year. The cost will be some what higher this year as food Is much higher. Health examinations will be necessary for every one before at tending camp. INITIATION HELD BY K. OF P. MONDAY Arthur C. Evans was initiated Into the rank of Esquire at the regular meeting of Alpha Lodge No. 47, Knights of Pythias, held Monday evening in the Knights Castle Hall. Chancellor Commander E. G. High announces that the rank ot Knight will be conferred at the next regular meeting, which will be held on Monday evening, June 17, at 8:00 P. M. All Esquires and all members who can assist with the work in this rank are espe cially urged to attend this meet ing. At last Monday's meeting there was a good deal ol discussion on the matter of the organization of a local Palace of the Princes of Syracuse. This is the branch of the Knights of Pythias that is for Doys ana young men between tne ages of 12 and 18. Al Kuykendall, cnairman ot tne Knights commit tee for this work, reports the work of organization is well under way. Anyone interested in sun porting this fine activity for the youth of the city and surround ing territory can obtain further information on it from either Mr. Kuykendall, at Al's Fixlt Shop on tast cass iat., or from Mr. High. He said livestock men are hold ing back their stocks until July 1 in view of the Senate committee recommondatlons.v Until a decision Is made In Congress, he added, "you are not going to get any meat." Stay Order Continues on Freight Rates Increase WASHINGTON, June 13 OP) The Supreme Court refused Tuesday to issue an order mak ing effective immediately an in terstate commerce commission or der changing class railroad freight rates. The ICC directed a 10 per cent increase in the north and east and a 10 per cent reduction in the south. Nine states and 33 railroads op posed the ICC order in suits which were dismissed last May 27 bv a special three-judge federal court in Utica, N. Y. The court at the same time granted a 60-day stay for the fil ing of appeals to the Supreme Court. The government appealed from this stay order, asking the Su oreme Court to vacate it. The high tribunal rejected that re quest with a simole announce ment of denial. Hence the stay or der continues in effect. Feed Crops for Ducks -Are Planned to Shield Farms WASHINGTON, June 13 (IF) The Senate appropriations com mittee has voted $750,000 for the purchase of land In California to grow feed crops for ducks. The money, refused earlier by a House committee, was added to an Interior Department appropri ations bill. It is subject to Senate approval and House concurrence. The plan is for the federal eov ernment and California to buv points In the Sacramento-San Joaquin and ImDerial valleys, sow rice or cheaDer crops and shoo the birds In with airplanes. The ducks and geese would be expected to stay In the feeding areas and leave the farmer's crops alone. Albert M. Day, director of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, told the Senate committee the filan has been tried on leased and, and It worked. Crop depre dation, he said, at one time amounted to $1,000,000 a year on the migratory bird ' flyaway in California.
